Fanless CPU heatsink on Abit IP35Pro?

I'm thinking of replacing my Zalman 7000AlCu for ThermalRight Ultra 120. I know that Ultra wont cool components around CPU as Zalman did, especially since i dont plan to put a fan on it
My main concern are PWM and system temperatures, up to what temperatures will my IP35Pro run normally?
Is it possible for BIOS to keep my CPU fan turned off until CPU temp reaches certain value and then turn it on? Answer is probably no... That would be sooo nice to have.

Is someone already using fanless CPU heatsink on Abit IP35Pro?

Not that i really need this upgrade but its just that "i have to buy something for my computer or i will die" kind of thing

I'm not, but surely it'll depend on:
    a) what CPU you have
    b) if it's overclocked / overvolted
    c) tends to run full-pelt alot, or just 'ticks over' and
    d) what chasis the whole lot is sitting in (ie good airflow or not).

You can get a low RPM 120mm fan that you wont even hear to put on that Ultra 120. Why subject your other components to the increase in heat and possibly shorten the life of the board? There are plenty of quiet 120mm fans around, I have a couple that you cant even hear unless you open the case and stick your ear right next to them....LOL

Re: Fanless CPU heatsink on Abit IP35Pro?

I have E2160 M0, EIST turned on, not overclocked/overvolted. I don't play games a lot, i might say that lately the only time it will go over 50% usage is when i use DScaler to watch TV.
Case is Antec P182 which is pretty cramped up, i do have one intake and one exhaust fan on it. I would post a picture but i cant because of ->

I would get a fan on ultra if temperatures tend to get over the limit.
Fan on zalman is spinning at only 720-780rpm when idle but i can still hear it and its currently my loudest fan, probably because i have been using it for about 2 years nonstop. Couple of times a day it even squeals like a mouse. Maybe i could lubricate it, i didn't really try that as it seems a bit more complicated to get near bearings.

Actually, i'd say that you have virtually the perfect candidate in terms of low-power CPU and airy case for running a fan-less Thermalright.
Of course the CPU will run hotter, but the C2D's will take it quite well (from memory up to 65 or even 70C should be acceptable).
I'd do 2 things though - seriously consider adding a super-quiet 120mm fan (like a Noctua or Nexus) and something like a Zalman fan-mate controller to run it at super slow-mo; and also invest a little time in reading the guru of websites:
    SilentPCReview.

    I sure hope so

I will first try it out fanless for a while to see how will that affect temperatures. I already own one noctua and they are great, but i think i'll buy Scythe S-Flex since i see a lot of people saying its very quite fan.

Had to buy ultra extreme because i couldn't find non extreme version.

By looking at Hardware Monitor i see that idle temp is 2C higher now, didn't run any benchmark/stability tests to max out temp yet.

Re: Fanless CPU heatsink on Abit IP35Pro?

    Idle temps are: 32-34C
    Max temps are: 53-55C
It takes about 30min to go from 33C to 54C and about 10min back from 54C to ~35C. I'm very pleased with these temperatures considering that i dont have fan on ultra. It would have been better if i could compare temperatures but i forgot to do this kind of test when i had zalman inside...

    CPU core1 & core2:

    MB PWM & system:

My passive graphics card now tends to run a lot hotter
    before with zalman on cpu:

    now without fan on cpu:

Nice one. 55 degrees C is actually less than what my quad core runs at alot of the time, and that's got a fan on it!
