    Can't see 2nd 9800GTX on Abit in9 32-max

Trying to get SLI setup on my Abit in9 32-max with two 9800 GTX, but the system doesn't detect the 2nd card.

    My Components

    • Abit in9 32-max (Bios 15)
    • Q9550
    • 4 x 1GB Corsair DDR2 8500DOM
    • Enermax Galaxy Modular DXX 1000W PSU
    • e-GeForce 9800 GTX KO (512-P3-E875-AR) in master PCIe x16 slot
    • e-GeForce 9800 GTX+ (512-P3-N879-TR) in slave PCIe x16 slot

I've just re-installed the o/s (vista 64 bit) and put the latest drivers on so there is no old drivers to worry about.

Either card on it's own in the master PCIe slot is detected and works correctly. But when I put the cards in as described above and connect with/without the SLI bridge that came with the m/b the second card is not detected at all.

I arranged the cards as described as I read that you should put the slowest card in the master slot. But I haven't yet tried the cards the other way around.

I also tried the newer card on it's own in the slave slot but obviously with no card in the master slot I got a POST error.

One thing that struck me at the time of fitting the new card in the slave slot, was that the bottom edge of the card seemed to almost rest on the fdd/case cables that attach to the motherboard in that area. I've tried reseating it a few times during testing and as best as I can tell it is located in the slot correctly. But having seen the post on some of the newer cards not fitting this m/b I wondered if this could be the same.

    Any advice greatfully received.

    Re: Can't see 2nd 9800GTX on Abit in9 32-max

Looks like the issue was indeed space. I tried fitting the older card (which is the larger of the two) into the slave PCIe slot and it also seemed to not sit correctly.

Checking around the card I started removing the connection to the motherboard one by one and found it was the floppy disk drive cable. I have one of those rounded cables and there seems to be just enough of the plastic sheilding at the end to get caught under the card. It doesn't look much but it seems to be enough to stop the card seating correctly and therefore being detected by windows.
