Abit AV8 freezes all the time

Hi

I start from the beginning..
Some years ago I assembled a pc.

abit av8
amd 3500+
1 gb 3700 DDR400
ATI something (can't remember)

I'm used doing this and still it took me 1 week to finally get it together.
i had the same freezing problem and bought a new PSU (150$) (commented on the abit forum)
it didn't help.

Then, I remember fixing it somehow and now the pain has come back.

because the forum.abit-usa.com is decrepeated, i cannot find the solution anymore.
I've been searching days on this problem and just can't find it.

this is what happens:
he boots windows. and after a while the mouse freezes and if i press some keyboard keys he reboots the pc.
in eventviewer i can't see anything.
fail safe don't work.

i already upgraded the bios to the latest version.

in safe mode i noticed that the CPU is 100% the moment i move my mouse.

can anyone please help me out?

I've noticed that there could be a problem with the 4in1 drivers by VIA.
i had to overrule the CPU to VGA controller and change it to PCI TO PCI controller (default microsoft)
then i had less problems...

something to do with software/OS?

unless the LED is faulty it has to be showing a code.
is the RAM voltage in the BIOS set to whatever the manufacturer recommends (iirc my OCZ 3700 needed higher than normal voltage).

I take it that you are using the latest VIA drivers?

windows xp.

I tried installing the latest VIA drivers, but the pc freezes during the installation.
In safe mode he doesn't want to install the drivers.
Tonight I'll try to uninstall the drivers, and reinstall them.

otherwise i try a reinstall of OS.
