    AB9 QuadGT - Restarting

I have a Quad GT with 4GB RAM on a Dual Core 3.0GZ

I've been running fine with this setup except for the last four months. I was running BIOS 17 until last night I found BIOS 18 and installed it. I was hoping that BIOS 18 would fix my problems and it did not. After the BIOS update I loaded defaults. BIOS does show that it is BIOS 18.

I have one major problem (restarting) and one very minor problem (LED lights).

Minor - UGuru under the BIOS will not save any other option of LED light settings on the MOBO. I want them turned off and it just saves it as all on and flashing.

Major - Every time that I put the PC into Sleep mode or Shutdown mode under Vista the PC will reboot itself after it has fully shut off. At first I thought it was Vista. However, when I went into the BIOS to get the LED lights to shut off I found that after I tried to save the BIOS the PC would do the exact same thing of restarting.

The post code is weird when PC is full off and before it restarts it posts and F.<blank> (the second digit doesn't display). The PC could sit off from 10secs or what seems like a minute, its random sometimes.

Another thing that I do notice when the Post code is displaying the F.<blank> code, I cannot use the power button to restart PC or reset PC. The only way to get it out of this state is turning off the electricity to the PC. Once I turn on the electricity the post code read out is normal at 00 and the board is fine.

Other than this annoying issue the board and all hardware work flawlessly. No BSOD, no memory issues, no freezes, and nothing is out of place. I've had BIOS 17 since last year sometime and had no problems with it ever until about 4 months ago.

Antec case & power supply. 450 power supply (I think). No hardware configuration changes.

    Thanks in adavnce

    Re: AB9 QuadGT - Restarting

Tore everything down today and used the minimal resources. Stayed outside vista and just reset the BIOS and played with settings.

When I save the BIOS settings I notice that the PC does not reboot itself right away like it is suppose to. It hangs in the state I mentioned above F.<blank>. Then it eventually boots at an unset time.

the restart has often ben seen to be due to a failing PSU with it appearing to be particularly common on Antec smartpowers.

btw where did you get BIOS18?

I got the BIOS 18 from these forums.

I was thinking that it could be possible on PSU side. I guess it would not hurt to buy another PS and test it out.

Do you have any recommendations on PSs

Antec will be replacing my PSU for free. So we will see where this leads the problem to. Hopefully a fix.
