    Won't boot up

    Hi guys

A couple of weeks ago my PC started having intermittent power problems, like I had to switch the PSU on and off a few times before it would boot up properly. Then one day it refused to power up at all.

So having searched on here before thought it could be the ram being undervoltaged or something else. So took out ram, gfx card, etc but to no avail. Eventually we decided that the PSU must have gone. So ordered up another one and connected it, but still not getting anything.

If I have the PSU connected as normal (ATX, PCI-e) but without the 12v cpu connector the system gets to postcode 87 (check cpu core voltage?). However if I connect the 12v cpu connector the system power cycles for something like half a second and it just runs up to postcode 99.

Don't know if this helps but if I don't have at least one rail connected to the gfx card then the system will give a blip sound.

    My specs are:
    Abit IP35 Pro
    Core 2 duo cpu
2 gb of corsair PC 6400 ram (I know this runs at a different fsb to mb)
BFG Tech nvidia 8800gtx graphics card

What's going on here, is my mb dead?

    Thank you

    Re: Won't boot up

With some fiddling around and resetting the cmos switch on the new psu, i have now managed to get up to postcode C1... wooohoo. So I decided I will plug the old cpu back in and reset the cmos and that seemed to work as well, aaaaargh.

Now - I think - I need to find a way of getting into the bios and increasing the memory voltage from 1.8 to 2.1V, another more stick of compatible ram perhaps to try and get it booting somehow perhaps?

I'm not sure of the protocol here, but this may be better in the Hardware section. Leave a copy here for the Abit people and cross post.
(the problem is waaaaay out of my league though - sorry)
    Society's to blame,
    Or possibly Atari.

    Re: Won't boot up

I don't think cross posting is generally a good idea on most forums, and I have looked at the other threads in this section and they are asking for technical assistance, this is the abit.care part of the forums! Back on topic...

My mb supports DDR2 667/800 out of the box. My ram is rated at PC 1033, so need some sticks to be able to boot in to bios and adjust the voltage accordingly. In theory anyway. Would have been nice if I could get to the bios screen without the need for any ram...

    Re: Won't boot up

Tried a stick of DDR2 667MHz 1.8v and I can get too bios, however changing the voltages still doesn't pick up my ram probably its duff, will try and post more results as soon as I can get more info.
