    Abit IX48 doesn’t work with 8GB Ram

    Hello community,

I have got an Abit IX48-Max Tigerforce (GT3) Revision 1.0 with the BIOS version 12 (12/05/2008) and 4x2GB Geil Black Dragon DDR3 1333MHz Ram. When I only use 2 Dimms (4GB) it is all fine but when I use all 4 then the Board doesn’t boot. Post Codes are for example 01, 0d, 11 and c5. Every Dimmbank on the Board and every Ram is ok. I have tested it with MemTest 4.0. I have got also tested it with the older BIOS version 11. What can I do to use all the 8GB? Is it the wrong memory?
    I buyed this 2x:

    Modellbezeichnung: GB34GB1333C7DC
    Serie: Black Dragon
    Gesamtkapazität: 4096 MB
    Anzahl Module: 2
    Bauform: DIMM
    Typ: SDRAM-DDR3
    Standard: DDR3 - 1333 (PC3 - 10666)
    Timings: CAS Latency (CL) 7
    RAS-to-CAS-Delay (tRCD) 7
    RAS-Precharge-Time (tRP) 7
    Row-Active-Time (tRAS) 24
    Anschluss: 240-Pin
    Organisation: 128Mx8
    Spannung: 1,5 Volt
Spannungsbereich: ab 1,5 Volt bis 1,5 Volt

My CPU is a Core2Duo E8400 not overclocked.

    Thank you for your help.

    EDIT:

Re: Abit IX48 doesn’t work with 8GB Ram

Unfortunately Abit has some major issues with RAM I noticed,
I had a lot of problems too with 4GB OCZ Ram. I just RMA'd my
RAM and got another brand (Corsair), now it works! I suggest
you do the same because I knew for sure too that all my modules
were working. It's just a RAM support issue on this board ;-)

Advice: Try another brand (OR 2x 4GB) if that exists :-D

    Grtz

    have you tried increasing Vmch?
have you posted on the Geil forum to see if they have any recommendations re. timings & voltages?

Re: Abit IX48 doesn’t work with 8GB Ram

As BUFF says, increasing the NB voltage is likely to solve this issue as running 4 sticks of RAM on agressive timings (CL7 1333mhz is pretty "normal" but can still be counted as agressive) requires a slight notch in the NB controller to run it.

Re: Abit IX48 doesn’t work with 8GB Ram

    Thank you for your tips. I have increased the DDR3 Voltage from 1,5V - 1,6V - 1,7V - 1,8V till 1,9V and the MCH Voltage from Auto/1,25V - 1,35V - 1,45V - 1,55V - 1,65V till 1,75V and everytime the same, 2 Dimms are running stable and with 4 Dimms the Board doesn't boot, Post Code c5...
I thing Infected is right, I have to change the Brand. Is there somewhere a compatibilitylist in the world wide web for this board? Does this memory http://www.crucial.com/eu/store/list...%29~/list.html work on my board (Crucial DDR3 Ballistix Tracer)?
The geil forum is down since one year and the inofficial forum is inactive.
Did anyone have another tip for me? I have 5 days remeaning to ship the memory back to the seller.

Re: Abit IX48 doesn’t work with 8GB Ram

I've had an ABIT IX48 GT3 motherboard for a year. At the time I ordered it I also had ordered an Intel Core 2 Quad Q9650 cpu and Kingston KVR1333D3N9K2/4G memory sticks; totalling 8Gb of RAM (4 each 2Gb sticks).

Windows XP Pro w/SP3, Windows XP Pro x64 w/SP2, Win7 32- and 64-bit have all recognized the memory with no problems. I made no changes to any of the default settingsin the BIOS.

Re: Abit IX48 doesn’t work with 8GB Ram

@ODF: What CPURAM ratio did you try?

As I have had similar problems on my IX38-GT3 (which is in many ways similar to your IX48) maybe you can try as following:

    1. Use the 1:1.50B option for DRAM speed. Of course this results in less RAM speed - but this way you can find out wether your board will work with all your 4 RAM modules at all.

    2. If 1. works next step should be to trythe 1:2.00B option, BUT REDUCE THE EXTERNAL CLOCK to 267 MHz (=FSB 1067). This underclocks CPU & RAM at start, so there is a good chance that the system starts up.

In case the board comes up with this settings you can create under Windows a pre-defined user profile in the uGuru software tool, there you can try to set the external clock to 333 MHz (=1333 MHz FSB & 1333 MHz RAM speed).

At least this works on my IX38-GT3 - on this board I also cant get up the system with FSB & RAM speed 1333 Mhz... but the Windows/uGuru-trick works fine, the system is absulutely prime-stable.

Re: Abit IX48 doesn’t work with 8GB Ram

Hi, now I use only 2x2GB that works fine. I send 2x2GB back to the seller. I have tested 4x2GB Kingston RAM from a fiend an there are no Problems. When I need in the future 8GB of Ram I would buy this one.

    Hi ODF,

I see your board has BIOS 12 which I have never seen and I cannot find it anywhere. Could you email that BIOS to me?

    Thanks Much,

lol...Yes, I did see that. I'm just hoping he (or someone else) still has that, presumingly shipped, 12 BIOS. I know there are unoffical (non-Abit) Beta BIOS' up to 15 out there, but I would love to have an Abit Final 12 or Abit Beta 12 BIOS.

    Hi there,

    I uploaded the BIOS 12 here: http://ul.to/wcrc4z

after my Black Dragons becomes defect (i think it was to hot for them) i bought me 4x2GB Crucial Ballistix Smart Tracer. Now my IX48 works fine with 8GB of RAM.
