Upgrading to Windows 7 will mainboard work ?

    Hiya there

I wonder if anyone can give me some advice, I have decided at long last its worth an upgrade from Windows XP Pro to Windows 7

I'm thinking also of going from 32 to 64 bit and running around 6GB of ram.

    I have a Abit IP35 Pro XE(Intel P35-ICH9R) and have a few questions

    1) Will the drivers on the CD be suitable for windows 64 bit ?
    2) will the mainboard be ok with 64 bit ?

I have the lastest BIOS 6 05/26/2008 as show on the official abit website

Re: Upgrading to Windows 7 will mainboard work ?

Hey ZooBurner, I don't have this board, I have the Fatality FP-IN9, which pretty much takes the same processors. But you board is the better board by the looks of it.

You board will work absolutely fine with 64bit. Reason being is that the CPU you'll be slotting onto the board with be a 64bit CPU, thus Win7 64bit will work fine.

I use a C2D E4300 @3GHz on my FP-IN9 and run Win7 64bit Ultimate. Which works. Though I believe my mobo can't handle the O/C any more and keeps hanging Windows.

Plus, I wouldn't just rely on the drivers that come with the board. Before doing the install of Win 7 make I would download every driver you know you'll need (at least to start with) before hand and put them on a USB drive. Plus, Win 7 has just about every driver under the Sun, and you probably find that once installed everything will just work anyway

I have an iX38 QuadGT and some of the drivers are not working fine for it.

Just have to try yours and see, but ABIT drivers (bloody relics), are not transferable from Vista 64Bit to WIn7 64Bit as we were led to believe.

Re: Upgrading to Windows 7 will mainboard work ?

I have exactly the same board as you and it works fine under 64bit W7. W7 seems to have adequate drivers built in as I didn't need to install anything.
The only thing is that I can't stop the UAC from asking me if I want to allow uGuru to run.

    Well W7 worked a dream

It did download its own drivers for just about everything (except my sound card), and it didnt know what uguru was !

But I have to say easiest install I have ever done !!.. 64bit and 6GB works a dream too !
