    Ip35e not booting

Hopefully this is a fixable problem basicly after switching off my computer the other night I have had a problem getting it to boot, it took me 20 or so times trying to get it to boot windows the first time and now I have tried a good 50 or so times with no luck.
What is happening is when the power button is pushed it will come to life for a second and then go off again, and will not come on for even that second without the power being disconnected for a good 15 seconds or so, I have had a good poke arround and even tried another power supply which is known to be working, and double checked my cpu/ram/vid in another pc and all seems to be fine.
Poking about a bit more I have found that the computer will power on(but not boot) with the 4/8 pin power connector disconnected (with both psu's) so I am assuming that something has gone wrong with the cpu voltage regulation in that area that is causing it to power off for saftey.
    Any suggestions?

the fact it powers without the cpu power means nothing, most boards will do the same as my asus does when i forget to connect it. either the psu is shot or the motherboard. try resetting the bios as a 1st step

    Re: Ip35e not booting

Prob should have said I have tried all the usual trouble shooting bits and bobs inc bios and I know every board I have had has powered on with out the CPU connector and that was one of my trouble shooting steps, it will not power on with either of my psu's so I am left thinking it is the vrms or something in the CPU power regulation circitry that has gone bad, I should also say that it has taken a couple of attempts to boot in the last month or so but no more than 2 times on any other occasion.

Not that I can see, was something I was looking for when I started to think it might be a vrm problem, not noticed any other symptoms you usualy get with power problems though, I honestly can't remember the last time it crashed for example.

I had EXACTLY your same problem (I've got the IP35E), with the CPU powering up briefly for a few seconds and then going back to sleep again. Nothing I tried worked (even your 4/8 pin power disconnection method). I ended up having to ask for a replacement board, which works fine now.

I've had this board for around 3 years now , sad that it decided to conk out.

I had a similar problem very recently - try turning the machine on with nothing plugged into the USB ports and see if anything different happens...

I still have an Abit IP35-E. It used to be my primary rig, has a Core 2 Duo E6400 OC'ed to 3.2GHz. It has ran for 3.5 years without a problem. Most of that was 24/7 operation with gaming and video encoding.
