Abit AB9 Pro fails to boot

    Hello,

I have an Abit AB9 Pro, it's been awesome for a couple of years, until a power outage. I then found that a hard drive was toast, but system still booted with it (up till the bootloader, of course). I removed the faulty hard drive.

Now, the system won't start. Error code is 8.2. "Enable ATX Power Supply". But the PSU seems ok, because I've connected it to another mobo and it works. Motherboard also seems fine, it boots with another PSU.

If I remove the 4-pin CPU power supply (ATX12V1), CPU fan starts, but I quickly get 8.7., which is "Check CPU Core Voltage".

Surely I'm missing something, I'm pretty much new to hardware, but how come, with the CPU supply connected, it won't even start?

    Thanks in advance,
    Vlad

well, it seems fairly obvious that the problem is the PSU that was in the system when it had it's outage.

is the other system that it works with comparable to the AB9 one?
Perhaps a rail has gone that the other system doesn't use.

The other system has considerably lower specs.

It's the first time I hear about the concept of power supply rail, but I've looked it up on Wikipedia. Just to be sure: do you mean that part of the PSU is broken, but that part is not used by the system which I used to test it with?

What I'm interested in is making sure that buying a new PSU will fix things, and that there is nothing wrong with the motherboard. Can I be fairly certain of that?

Either way, thanks a bunch for making me learn a new thing today

suspected as much & it tends to confirm my supposition.

either not used or it doesn't require as much from it.

can't give you a 100% guarantee but as it works with the other PSU I would say that's a strong indication ...
    just don't buy a cheap PSU - it's a false economy.

Thanks a lot for your response, I feared that the motherboard was fried.
