Memtest shows 4Gb instead of 8Gb

    Hello,

I recently got my hands on a used MB, an ABIT IP35, with 4 strips of memory installed. The system is running ok with win 7 showing 4Gb.
When I was cleaning the dust from the MB, I noticed the strips are 4 PDC22G6400LLK. These are 2Gb a piece!
I flashed the MB with the latest bios, but this had no effect.
I also did a test with memtest86+, with no report of errors.
    Memtest shows 4 x 1024 MB DDR2-400 installed.

Does anyone has a solution to this problem?

    Thanks,

    Danny

A brief google shows that part number is a 2 x 1gb kit - therefore each DIMM should be just 1gb IMHO! What you have is 2 x PDC22G6400LLK which = 4 x 1gb DIMMs in total.

Re: Memtest shows 4Gb instead of 8Gb

    Thanks for the reply Dangel,

All the 4 DIMMS of the mobo have 1 PDC22G6400LLK in.
The labels on all 4 memory says 2GB(2x1GB).

So i assume i've got 8GB in total?!?!

Correct me if i'm wrong please.

Re: Memtest shows 4Gb instead of 8Gb

You have two sets of 2 x 1GB, when it shows 4GB, that is correct and is definitely reporting the correct amount of RAM

    You don't have 8GB.
