aw9d-max and 460 gtx not getting along

Tried to upgrade my 8800gt to a 460 gtx in my aw9d-max abit board, Its freezes the system on the first post screen with error code 87.

Other 975x boards have had this problem, but it has been remedied via bios update. The last bios abit released for this board was in 2008 is there anything I can do to get my new video card working?

The video card works fine with the same psu, same cpu, and different mainboard.

Could you try the other PCI-E port ?
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

Its because ABIT left everyone in the lurch.

Their products were great, but their service was always rubbish, and it continues.

im having the exact same issues- did you ever find a graphics card that will work? I was trying to use a sparkle geForce gtx 460 on my aw9d-max and it locked up at post code 5b (which is just weird).

Re: aw9d-max and 460 gtx not getting along

problem solved. it ended up being a power supply issue- the 460 gtx pulls an incredible amount of power, i thought my 650w psu could handle it, but i guess it was too much for it to handle. i ended up having success with an ati radeon 5770.

Re: aw9d-max and 460 gtx not getting along

as long as your 650w isnt a cheapo you shouldnt have a problem. The 460gtx at most uses about 3A more than the 5770 on the 12v rail. The bios is at fault here, Im pretty sure they broke something when they "improved support for the gx2". I found a work around, if you plug a thumbdrive into the back usb port it boots fine. I believe during my troubleshooting bios v15 worked fine as well.

Re: aw9d-max and 460 gtx not getting along

Kind of an old thread to revive, but did anyone succeed in using the gtx 460
with the bios 1.5 or bios 1.6?
I'm asking since in order to use bios 1.5 you'd need to have a cpu prior to E8xxx.

ALso i have seen people around using GTX580 on the aw9d-max without any problem.

I installed my gtx460 on the aw9d-max yesterday, and it too got stuck on POST screen.(using bios 1.7)

Re: aw9d-max and 460 gtx not getting along

    Problem solved!

I downgraded the bios from 1.7 to 1.6 and that was it!
The system booted normally, driver installed...card works as it should...

    Ironic...but it worked
