Slow Drive - incorrectly in CHS mode - KN8 SLI

My kn8 SLI has put my Maxtor SATA 6y080m0 boot disk into CHS mode, which means it's REALLY slow

How can I get it to correctly read it as LBA (or convert the drive itself) preferably withough losing any data, the ONLY options available to me in the BIOS are "Auto" and "Large"

This has been posted to no avail at the abit usa forums, can anyone help me out?

    Hi PC_Arcade

Has the board ever correctly recognised the drive or are you installing fresh? Unfortunately this board only has one SATA controller (the NF4 chipset) so I can't suggest trying it on another controller to see if that makes a difference. Don't suppose you have another computer to try it on? Might be worth trying the drive on a different port or swapping out the power and signal cables too.

If you need to use manual settings then this drive is SATA1 and has 158,816 cylinders and max LBA of 160,086,528. There aren't any jumpers to set incorrectly so at least that's one less thing to worry about.

One last train of though; are you using any other SATA devices or hard-drives? Does disconnecting them make any difference?

This board hasn't recognised the drive correctly (or at least I didn't notice it if it did), but it was fine on anothe board

Thanks for that, I'll give it all a try and let you know

Got to the bottom of it, faulty drive

It started giving insane amounts of errors, so I swapped it out with another drive which is fine.

Thanks for the help though, much appreciated
