Buying an AB9 soon...Anyone had problems?

Hi All,

Planning on getting a new PC soon with the Abit AB9 motherboard. All I want to know is, has anyone had any problems with Abit motherboards and ATI graphics cards (to be specific: HIS ATI Radeon X1950 PRO 256MB).

I have seen a few threads with people expereincing corruption issues with nVidia graphics cards.

Any other advice on avoiding any AB9 problems also appreciated.

Big problems with RAM. I have a x1950pro (Sapphire) no problems with gfx card.

What RAM did you have a problem with. I plan on getting the Corsair DDR2800range of memory for mine.

Crucial Ballistix. They do upto 900mhz but so far i can only boot with 1 stick. Other stick works fine in other motherboards.

I am amazed that Crucial Ballistix is causing you problems. I have had the DDR 400 Crucial ballistix (2x512MB) and have never had a single problem with them and my Abit NF7 since I purchased them. Have you spoken with Crucial about the problem (have they provided a solution for you as well)?

I have just looked at the prices of Crucial Ballistix DDR2 on the crucial website and they are very expensive so will be sticking with Corsair when I get my AB9. Corsair do the same memory with lower timings for about 30% less in some cases.

The sticks are fine the motherboard doesnt seem to provide enough voltage early in the post sequence. I boot up with one stick change voltages and then stick another stick in but it gets stuck on C5.

I take it you have the latest BIOS for your AB9. Have you spoken with ABIT or Crucial regarding your problem?

I've got the AB9Pro here, make sure you load the drivers off the floppy disk on install, a guy on here was slating the board as his drives didnt work or something and he was having trouble and it turned out he wasn't loading the drivers off the floppy on install...

Ive posted something here about it. I wouldnt need to speak to Crucial its not their problem. But if the ram is faulty Crucial have a good Lifetime warranty with excellent RMA procedures.

Im waiting on Sean to get back to me but he hasnt. I havent seen him posting here in a long while.

Seems a bit dated having drivers on a floppy disk. What are ABIT playing at have they run out of CDs for their mobo drivers. Was hoping to ditch my FDD when I bought my new PC.

It'd be encredibly nice of Abit to give us 2Gb turboflash drive with the drivers on but its hardly there fault we dont have floppy drives in our machine is it?
Also bear in mind its the OS install that says put the disk in the floppy drive not the motherboard supplier...

IMHO its about time the OS install took note of at least IDE CD Drive on install to instead of it asking for a floppy disk it could check a 2nd optical drive for said drivers in which case I'm sure Abit and the rest of the suppliers would stop shipping products with floppy disks which I'm sur would cut there overheards anyway.

When you put it like that, then there is a valid reason for floppy disks.

Yeah, weird how sometimes I do actually make sence
