    Mac Keyboards

Everyone go and buy one NOW.

Seriously - they are great to type on far better than the Enermax laptop style keyboard and I've literally switched to it...in seconds and love it.

Even if I went back to a Windows machine this keyboard will come with me, its strong and it's great to type on - and VERY quiet...

Just speaking to someone here and they agree the only thing we don't like is the fact the keyboard has a plastic bottom but not too worried about that, and of course the USB ports are designed for the mouse and only things which are true USB plug sized - so no Corsair USB sticks in there!

    Re: Mac Keyboards

Funnily enough I'm using one right now - on a PC.

I'll always use my MS mouse on the Mac though, I don't get on with the Mighty Mouse.

I'm going to get one of the bluetooth ones for my mac mini and I may try the standard one in the shops for my main rig.

Can anyone confirm that the new wired one is a powered hub? i.e. whack an iPod in there?

    Re: Mac Keyboards

Each to their own, I suppose. I do not like the newer Apple keyboards. I'm not actually sure if the one you're referring to is the same one I don't like, but probably. My G3 iMac had a nice keyboard, in my opinion. Responsive easy to type upon keys and also, you could adjust the tilt on it with the plastic thing underneath. However, sadly my iMac keyboard died in a freak soft drink spilling accident, and I got a new mac keyboard as a replacement. I don't like using it at all, in fact, my dislike of it was part of the reason I stopped using my Mac. The keys have a stickiness to them (and I don't mean because there's sticky stuff on them!), they're not that easy to type on, in my opinion, and I don't like the non-adjustable angle.

I'm needing to use my ridiculously slow iMac at the moment as my PC is not working. Thankfully my friend was able to supply me with an old style iMac keyboard for it. I don't mean the kind that has no numeric keyboard, but the later full size version.

It's supremely ironic that Apple, the company that introduced the mouse to the masses, hasn't been able to design a decent mouse since the ADB Mouse II of 1993. In fact, they have the dubious distinction of designing the worst mouse ever made - the execrable 'hockey puck' USB gizmo that came with the original iMac.

    Re: Mac Keyboards

I actually am slightly fond of my mac mouse. Not the kind with white innards, but the single button clear mac mouse of the G3 iMac era. I find it comfortable to use. Though it doesn't have a scroll wheel, which would be useful, because the whole front bit is like a mouse button I find it easier to click and drag with it than with most computer mice. I have a wacom tablet mouse, and I prefer the original mac mouse to it, despite the wacom tablet mouse having a scroll wheel.

But the puck mouse is by no means the worst mouse ever made. I found it ok to use actually. I have personal experience of the worst mouse ever made. It was a replacement for the standard mac mouse of one of the iMacs at university. The mouse was made by Lindy, and was supernaturally horrible and un-ergonomic to use. It was a one piece mouse with no seperate button, like the standard mac mouse, but in order to click with it, instead of just applying pressure to the back of it and pushing it down, you had to tilt the side of it to the left or right. It was totally non-intuitive, and difficult to use besides, I kept failing to click properly because it wouldn't click if you pressed down on the middle, only if you tilted it to the side. And it's not even as if you got a right mouse click by tilting it right, and vice versa, it was all just considered to be the same.

I'm on my second apple pro keyboard on my pc

Bought my first one in 2000/2001(black keys) and found it was excellent. Especially for gaming, the plastic broke on the side about 4 or 5 years after so I got one of the new shape ones (white keys) in 2005 and it's just as good, if not better. Seems stronger.

I've told loads of people that it's the best keyboard I've used and that it's good for gaming and they laugh then they go off and spend £40+ on a 'gamers' keyboard

I used to use an apple keyboard, but swapped it for a dell one as its far far better to type on than the apple.

Yeah some kind of pull out cable hidden away would be good. I was really tempted by the wireless keyboard for my mini, but the wait has made me think twice about a £50 keyboard when I can do it all via apple remote desktop.

    Re: Mac Keyboards

I just looked at the newest ones and think they look ok, but not quite as strong as the previous ones and the keys look really shallow.
Also the F* (function) keys seem to have double functions and are also very small

I like the new wireless one tho would be excellent for a HTPC setup
