I've worked in a call centre once for a few months, only inexperienced staff would hang up on an abusive caller. Me, I'd ask them to stop swearing and if they continued tell them that you will hang up unless the language cleans up. If it still doesn't, then I'd hang up, calmly take off my headset, walk slowly and calmly into the gents and slam my fists into the toilet doors...

Broke the hinges once! I didn't take too well to being personally insulted...

    Didn't stay there long either...

well i never used abusesive language I said I wasn't to happy at the company and so forth. I got trading standards to pay them a visit as Apple are talking out of their asses with that 10 day returns rule Trading standards said it has to be 28 days and I sent them pictures of how it was sent to Apple and how Apple had returned it. Got as much evidence as I could and Trading Standards did their thing.

Oh and Kezzer I know you can get a 60GB Creative thing for £260 I don't like creative one bit

well, I used to work on a BT tech desk, telling you now if some1 was giving me hassle, would be *chop* "see ya, only get paid £6 an hour, not gonna take your sh*t for it!"

dude, Im not saying you dont have a right to be angry, because clearly you do. Its just judging by your posts you were rather upset and sounded like you had given them a bit of an ear bashing. allways have to bear in mind that the person on the other end really doesnt care because their shift is over in X minutes, they dont care they will never care but if your nice to them they may do somthing about your problem.

anyway, glad you got it sorted.

well I guess these Ipods are a bit misleading really aren't they.
ok so they're a pretty good idea - cram as much music into a tiny white box and have a cleaver menu system for accessing them too boot - not just good machine but fashion symbol too.
the down side is the fact that, unlike your ususal cd player/walkman, your batteries cannot be replaced, lose their charge in effect after about 18 months use and to replace cost you about the same to buy a new one. the fact that this has not been brought to the attentions of consumers could be one of several things; a certain amount of 'I don't care, it just looks cool', or perhaps a bit of 'it'll never happen to me', or even just simple 'well I'lljust be really careful with it then'. there's also the fact that iPods haven't been around for that long but are becoming more common place - esp. with new marketing drive out at the mo. so it remains to be seen what happens.
there's also the case that the numbers of these ipods around are not sufficiently high enough to 'trigger' some sort of investigation into why apple charge so bloomin' much for them to check it out/repair etc...again a case for trading standards should be brought up...
granted you should only have the battery changed by qualified technicians but thats no reason to shaft you the price of a new one....!

apple really need to get off their high horse and lower their prices, improve their ethics and generally remove their heads from their *rses...that goes for all their products. so much less for your money than the 'average pc' for example, just stupid. ok looks nice but you only get something worthwhile once you've shelled out thousands otherwise performance is severly hampered by low grade goods i.e. low ram, poor/no dedicated graphics processor... just how they stay alive at such high prices is a bit stupid.

and then theres the sort of arogance that comes with people who own macs...you know what i mean...

p.s. G5 is on order - along with one of those f*off obscenely big flat screens that are bigger than the average telly - 32' or something stupid... see ya'

Shiato i agree. Apple is doing exceptionally well becuase of their flawless marketting of products. Every major film you see features apple products, usually laptops- ipod in the new italian job.

Celebritys like the beckhams and robbie williams get pictured with ipods and now it becoming as "cool" a brand as Playstation

Apple have a good thrashing coming to them from watchdog soon- it will happen.

Apple have now dropped the prices of the replacement batteries as they got a lot of flak for it. I knew of the problems with the iPod at the time but thats why the extra cover for it was bought so if it did go in 18 months it would be covered.

I didn't get an iPod because they were "cool" I got one because I had the chance there and then to buy one so I did. The only reason I went for Apple over Creative models is that I have had nothing but crap quality products from them so I refused to buy anything else from them.

In terms of the watchdog thing, they will no doubt end up on watchdog lol Trading Standards have already been to see them on my account to which Apple called promptly and said they would have it picked up in a few days. Since then I have heard nothing and calling them is a waste of time as they change their story every time you call. I am slowly running out of options to get the iPod sorted and its pointless talking to the script reading monkies on the phone as they go through the checklist and they don't bother reading the case history to see that I have been through this 40 times before and the problem is clearly stated. I just need to find a number so someone higher up and actually talk to someone who won't run off a script.

Ohh boy. Seems like your being given the corporate treatment there. I had similar problem with Apple. I live in Colombo, Sri Lanka any my 8month old Pbook Ti LCD display died and guess what? No AppleCare here (purchased in Leeds). Great, so I fly to Singapore get it repaired and ohh, I pick up a new 15" Alu Superdrive Pbook.

Right, now I return, in 2weeks it is stone cold dead. Ohh boy. I had a $3000 lump of alu and silicon sitting on my desk for over a month, first week Jan I flew back to Sing, and Apple gave me a new pbook - full replacement. Guess what? They did nothing about compensation for travelling or lodging. Hell they arn't even taking more notice of Sri Lanka in terms of AppleCare.

Now it is all sorted, but I really hate Apple the Company but love their products....when they work

Just thought I would d an update. Good News this time, I recieved something

Shame it was the free 2 year protection they gave me as compensation minus the replacement iPod

But the story has a happy ending, the iPod finally arrived a whole 2 months and 3 weeks after i sent it to them for a replacement. Anyone else think that their claim for world class support is absolute tosh? but anyway, new iPod is here, but i cant be bothered to open it and play with it so its sitting on the shelf. Had enough of them at this moment in time.

You all moan about apple products after a year and half... what about sony network walkmen ( memory stick )
i had 2 ( they only had 64mb in them ) and they cost 300 and 350 quid each. the more expensive one was made out of cheap plastic. and when its batteries had gone after FOUR yes FOUR months it took them 2 months to get it sent back.

recently broke my toshiba tablet pc lcd mask after. 2 months of having it and it took a month for it to come back. they told me it would only take a week. then they tried to charge me £570 for a new top panel ( only wanted a bit of plastic replaced ) and they said it wasnt on warranty!! i told them it has to be as it wasnt my fault. and they only replaced the plastic when there was no costs involved.

when i got it back. there was white paint on it and the screw covers were bent back. i was sick of them in the end and didnt say anything about it... i'm sick of what these companies can do with us when we buy something from them.

so only buy kit from respectable companies - NEC, Yamaha, Iiyama have all been a pleasure to deal with.

the problem is that apple fans swear by their (mediocre) customer service.
