8800GS benchmarks

Hi,
I'm considering dumping my PC completely, as it's not been on in about 3 weeks - I've been using my iMac in the intervening time. My PC is loaded with an 8800GTX which is still pretty reasonable. I see Apple have just launched a new iMac with an 8800GS card in it. How does that compare to the 8800GTX? Does anyone have any benchmarks?

I know that the 8800GTX will be faster, but by how much? Tbh now we have a baby, the amount of gaming I do has fallen right off, and I'd prefer a smaller, cooler, more efficient setup (the PC is S939 X2 based).

I don't think gaming benchmarking programs exist for macs... I have never heard of 3D Mark for Macs... People don't buy macs for gaming generally... so no one bothers to bench them...

I wasn't proposing gaming under OSX. I was planning on using bootcamp and vista or xp. So 3dmark etc should all work. I guess no one has one to benchmark yet.

Its acceptable by most accounts.. sits probably slightly below a 9600GT..

The thing is, Apple can be pretty sly and introduce a whole new specs for 'apple version' 8800GS.. probably with even more crippled hardware (DDR2 or cut even more shaders or mem width) so it won't burn a hole through their SFF iMacs..

Yup.... Apple sure do have a history of underclocking the graphics cards they use so they don't melt stuff. Pretty cheeky.

This maybe a bit too late but the Mac 8800GS is actually the mobile 8800M GTS GPU with 64 stream processors!
