    Mac Os X 10.3 on PowerPC G3

    Hi,

Ok im at work and we use MAC's for design work. Now, we've recently just go the latest Illustrator and Photoshop software packages but you need to OS X to run them. Up to now we've alwaysn used OS9.2.2. So we got 10.3, after beuing told by the company we bought from that it would install fine onto a G3.

We've got a spare G3 lying around that we were gonna use for a test system, and oh my god I cannot get it installed on it.

I tried it as the system was at first. With OS 9.2.2 installed on it. Putting the Panther CD in wouldnt let me choose it in the startup disk program. Holding down C while booting up had no effect either.

So, then I wiped the hard drive and installed the factory standard os 8.6 that it first came with. Now i was able to select the cd in startup disk, but when it actually came to booting up, it loaded the scereen with an apple icon then just changed to a "no entry" style of sound (/). Like that, if that makes sence.

I had read around the net about updating firmware, so I downloaded firmware 1.1 and tried installing it but it tells me that its up to date!.

So now i am just at the end of my stick with it. Dunno wtf do.

The spec of the machine is :-
    300mhz
    192mb mem
    6gig hard drive

    Cheers

    Stuppy

"You can only boot OS X from a "master" drive in the beige G3. This applies to hard drives and CD-ROM drives. If the CD-ROM is set to slave, you will not be able to install OS X. If the hard drive is set to slave, you will not be able to boot from it." apparently: http://www.lowendmac.com/ppc/g3b.shtml

although - didn't the latest versions of OS X not support the older macs? or something like that?
