Macbook Pro: DVD Stuck In Slot Drive!

Hey all,
So my Macbook Pro decided to be a pain in the ass over the weekend and not eject a DVD.

I've tried all sorts of things that are suggested on the internet:

1. Tilting the Macbook
2. Using iTunes to eject
3. Booting up holding the mouse pad button down
4. Using the eject command in a terminal window

Now the Macbook is a couple of years old and has no Apple Care on it.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Ahh the perials of slot-loading DVD drives. Now, what is the lesson here, GET APPLECARE.

As to your prediciment, there was a certian boot combination... Googles, ahh yes...

Does it attempt to eject it, or does it just not respond at all?

The first one would be something it stopping it, perhaps some leverage to try and open up the slot a bit would work?

The second one would indicate a dead DVD drive. I'm guessing you can't replace the DVD drive on a Macbook like you could a PC.

It does try and eject (i.e. you can hear it trying) but nothing ejects...

I had the same problem, but because of AppleCare I was able to get it replaced. Unfortunatly to replace it yourself, as suggested, would cost a pretty penny. IIRC the drives themselves are about £150...

... Hmm... £70 including shipping, price has came down since I last looked. Probably can get it cheaper, and you're not assured it will fit, but:

It does try and eject (i.e. you can hear it trying) but nothing ejects...

In that case I would see if you can give the disk more room to eject.

I had the same problem with my laptop, the front part wasn't seated right so the disk kept getting caught by the two felt pieces at the front of the slot. Managed to remove the angled cover plate to eject the disk and the re-seated it correctly again.

I'm guessing you won't be able to go this with a Mac though.

There is a small slot next to the drive... you try sticking a small pin in there to eject it manually?

I don't believe the Macbook Pro slot loading drives have a pin hole for manually ejecting the disks

Have you got anything slim you can push in to try and wiggle it free?

Maybe cut a blank disc in half and use that?

Cracked it!

Seems the Macbook likes to hang on to certain disks; I read that sometimes squeezing the Macbook on the top and bottom of the drive helps it eject. Worked first time!

Oddly enough I put my Mac OS disk in, it read it perfectly and ejected first time.....
