    G3 ibook - worth it?

    Hi all,

It looks like the missus will be swiping my P4 laptop and since I need something to browse the net on whilst watching telly, I thought I'd try OS X. I've been looking at possibly getting a 600MHz/G3/DVD 12 inch ibook. I'll be using it for wireless browsing mostly. I'm not going to be leaving the Windows life completly as I still have my Shuttle for games etc.....

So, whadda you think? G3 ibook for 500 + cost of airport card? Worth it?

It seems like an ok deal to me. I'm pretty sure that I haven't seen any of the white ibooks going for less than 400 (£ sterling) on ebay.

Its worth what you are willing to pay. G3 may struggle a bit but ram will help. There is always the option of upgrading the G3 to a G4 450Mhz or a G3 900Mhz if you find it underpowered. Airport cards can be had off ebay for about £25 if you look hard enough.

Actually I'm not going to buy it. Just today I ordered a brand new G4 iBook!

Ordered the 12" G4 1GHz. Only with 256 RAM but I'll upgrade it in the future. Also ordered an Airport extreme 802.11G card and a bluetooth adaptor. All in it was around £915 but as my GF works for a university I got the Higher Education discount and got it for £803 delivered! Roll on next week!!!!
