    New Aluminium displays soon....

    http://www.thinksecret.com/news/newdisplays.html

Apple is on the verge of announcing a new, totally re-designed family of three flat-panel displays with the addition of a 30-inch HD-ready model. In what appears to be a major change in direction for Apple, the displays will exclusively use a digital visual interface (DVI) connector and will not come with Apple's proprietary Apple Display Connector (ADC).
    ooooooooh 20inch lcd please

    Hmmm....

Another negative point will be the addition of one more cable, which Apple has up until now used as a positive selling point of ADC, being that power was drawn from the CPU via the ADC cable.
Power drawn from the CPU? I doubt that very much...
The moral of the story.. don't skimp on the proof-reading

How can displays have system requirements?

Like it says the 30" will only run on a G5.

Because they'd rather not say "the rest of ours systems ship with REALLY cr@p graphics cards and there's no way in hell that they'll have a DVI connector, and even if they did they probably couldn't handle the native resolution of the screen"?

    *ducks sharply*

DVI has a maximum resolution that can be thrown down the wire. i imagine the 30" screens exceed the usual half-channel limit & require a gfx card that can deliver full-rate dvi

It mentions on the shop page that with G5's you need to buy the GeForce 6800 Ultra as well..

Note: The 30-inch Cinema HD Display requires a NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra DDL graphics card to operate with a Power Mac G5.
    and in various places..

    Dual Link DVI
The 30-inch Cinema HD Display* requires the next level of DVI connectivity — dual link to drive the massive amount of pixels to the screen. And the NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra DDL graphics card delivers, with the most advanced graphics engine available. This card, designed specifically to support the dual link DVI connection, delivers 2560 by 1600 resolution. Even better, it can drive two 30-inch Apple Cinema HD Displays*, giving you the ultimate creative canvas.

It's always nice when Apple announce new products. Now I'm just waiting for them to announce a decent mac that people can actually afford.

Got another post running at the mo looking to buy a 23" monitor to go with a new Dual 2.5GHz mac.

Now, the missus prefers the styling on the old 23" monitor rather than this rather antiseptic grey model, so are there any advantages to the new model over the old, or is it all about the packaging?
