    Dual displays

    Hi.

I have dual displays running off a GF4 ti4200. I was wondering if its possible to have one moniter running a game, while the other is running windows desktop with MSN messenger going or something?

Does anyone know how to do that? and to switch easily between the two?

    Thanks very much

    Will

I think you might need two base units for that mate. Though there may be some multi desktop software out there that'll do what you want...

I don`t like Tom's style, but they just had an article about dual display.

Don`t think you can do it with most games though.

I have two monitors. If you make the game run in a window... at the same resolution as the monitors are running at, then you can drag the chat clients to one, and fill the other one with the game.

This is how I make it work. You can also consider downloading a program called multimon. This will place a second taskbar on your second monitor. This is so unbelievably useful.

Yes it is possible, no special software required. There is an option in the drivers to use the two outputs as two virtual graphics cards, rather than two outputs on one card. This means that when you play a game it will run on monitor 1, whilst the desktop remains on monitor 2. Your mouse will be locked to monitor 1 whilst playing but anything you leave running on monitor 2, MSN,IRC,Nero,Bit Torrent, etc will continue to run normally so you can watch whats happening.

Ran my machine this way for some time before switching back to the traditional setting of second monitor going black, all because Medieval: Total War wont run in this configuration, though every other game did. Hope this helps.

Yeah - I run it like that although if you have your desktops 1600*1200 then 1280*1024 ... if you run games at 1280*1024 on the main monitor, it'll shove all your stuff off the other side of the monitor so you gotta be cleaver in your placement of windows! Although if your running say 2 17s on 1024 it'll run fine!

UT2004 is another game that seems to have adverse effects with Dual monitor .. the beta demo anyways, had awful overlaying of the other desktop while playing!
