Help! Question about mac proc upgrade.

I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I have purchased a G4 Powermac and would like to upgrade it. I cannot find a specific reference to my model number (M5183). I believe this machine to be either an AGP Graphics model or a Gigabit Ethernet model. I do not know which. How do I go about finding this out. Thanks in advance for your time.

    Hi, welcome to the forums.

Your best bet is going to somewhere like www.apple-history.com , and looking up the Powermacs. There you should find some info as wto which model you have, and so what your upgrade options are.

If you're running OS X, then click on the apple on the top left corner. Choose 'About this Mac'...then a box will open. Click on the 'More info...' button. You will then have all the info you need, including the Mac's serial number, AGP/PCI, networking etc...you should be ok from there.

Thanks, I'm still not 100% convinced though. The AGP Graphics model can only be single proc and the Gigabit model can be dual. The Gigabit model on apple-history did not match as far as processor goes, but EVERYTHING else matched. The AGP model proc matched but nothing else did. Also according to AH the AGP does not come with Gigabit Ethernet and when I do an ifconfig --help on my terminal it shows set options for 1000BaseTX. This network interface is integrated into the system board (Is that what you would call a board for a mac?). Thanks again for the help but is there a foolproof way to go from here?
