    Another Mac Networking Thread

    Yes, thats right, another one.

I have a Mac G4 Dual with OS 9 (not sure which variant but I can find out if needed)

I also have a fairly large Windows Network (All the Clients are Running XP)

What I would like to know is is there a way for me to fileshare with my Mac as this would be very useful!
    Thanks

I got my mac once OS X started to 'flourish' (days of Jaguar) and OS 9 never made it an attractive choice.

I for one have a few macs working with XP machines fine (all OS X) - post the specs of your G4, if it is nearish to 850Mhz and say over 256MB of ram, running OS X shouldn't be a problem and cross-platform network will become a breeze

Only major problem I could think of is the GFX (5200FX?) causing quartz extreme to stutter. Btw that GPU is more than capable of handling quartz right now.

I would upgrade to OS X but I don't own the G4, its actually my dads and he likes his Mac like it is

Thursby Dave. Macs can share files and printers with PCs, PCs can share files and printers with Macs. Works on MacOS 8.6 or later.

Don't know about anywhere else but it's £111.98 at Dabs, though.

if they've got a windows server, then you can set up apple share sharing on a couple of network drives if you need to.
works just fine, and it's included in w2k and later servers (think it was in NT4 server, but it was a bit flaky)

Unfortunately I don't have a Windows Server, only Windows XP Pro on my server

In that case, I reckon your only choices are upgrading to OS X or using a 3rd party SMB client like Thursby Dave. If anyone knows of a cheaper SMB client than Dave that supports MacOS 9 please speak up, cause I realise that over £111 is a LOT if this is for home use.
