Could gen 4 ipod owners test something please???

To all gen 4 ipod owners,

I assume you are all aware of the alarm function (extras -> clock -> alarm clock). Could you please create a playlist, go into alarm clock and set the "sound" to the playlist.

At this point the alarm sound *should* say the name of your playlist. If it says "beep" dont worry. Next, turn the alarm on and set it to go off in a minutes time, plug in some headphones and wait.

What should happen is the ipod plays the playlist through the headphones. The problem with mine (and a few other peoples online) is that the ipod makes no sound when the alarm goes off. I just want to see if its a problem with lots of units, or just a few before i send mine back.

Post the results of your test.

    Thanks in advance

    Ben

I sent my ipod off, with a nice handwritten letter explaining the problem. They sent the same ipod back with a letter saying "theres no major problems" and that was it. No indication they even read my note. I'm now gonna try the mac firmware and see if that works.

Has anyone else tried this yet?

Ben when i had probs with the gen 3 ipod i sent it back as it arrived with a huge gouge out the screen. waited a month got it back same unit with a gouge in the screen. Same thing as you the letter said tested. No major Problems.

It took a grand total of 3 months to sort it, my thread is in the apple juice forum. Apple seem to be happy to sell the things to you, as soon as something goes wrong they fob you off left right and centre.

Cheers gray m@a. Apple sending me the same unit back with the same problem has just made my day worse than it already is (Failed my driving test for 1 stupid error). Would it really be hard for 1 of the people at apple care to do some work rather than plug the ipod into a diagnosis machine and leave it til it pings.

Also, they dont do the mac Ipod firmware for windows so thats a kick in the nuts.

Theres been progress on this (if you can call it that). My problem has been sent up the ranks of the tech support, and they are looking into it with other units. When i get back from work i'm going to call them and see whats going on.

Called today. They said "try a different music format", so i now have to encode an album is acc and try again. If that doesn't work then I have to call them back and then something else will happen.
