    Dead iPod

    Not mine, belongs to the Mac chap here at work, the earphone jacks nackered n Apple want daft money to even look at it...

    Anyone recommend any Apple repair places or is this a steady hand n soldering iron job?

    Hes bringing it down in a sec but he says its a Version2, dunno owt else about it as I dont do Mac

    Gen 2 will definatly be out of warranty so its gonna cost him far too much. Hes much better off buying a gen 4 ipod (much better than the gen 2, and doesn't look as tacky as gen 3)

    hmm if it's a 2nd gen, it's prolly 2yrs old and is only 10gb.

    Is it really worth repairing?!?
    For less than £200 you can pick up a 3rd gen, or for £219 you can get a 4th gen 20gb.

    Ebay it as well and thats part of the cost paid for.

    It's easy enuff- just carefully pry the top off, a really sharpe blade is what you need so you can get it between the plastic and metal. you need to push the clips back to pop open the top. Then it's just a matter of replacing the aud jack.
