My 23" Apple Cinema Display...

Hey guys...

I must say thanks to Apple for releasing the Mac mini. I got it on order for around £650ish and decided to sell my powerbook. With the cash I got off it I decided to order a 23" display, something I've been drooling over for quite some time. Finally my dream combo is materializing, a G5 + 23" Cinema display

I ordered it off the HE store for about £200(ish) cheaper than the price for regular consumers, £1249. It is on the delivery van out for delivery today and I'm hoping it'll get here before 3pm as I got two lectures in the evening and wouldn't want to miss 'em. Still they are introductory lectures (the start of sem2) so it's ok if I have to miss them to collect the display from the TN guy.

As usual TNT has given a delivery time of anywhere between 9am and 5pm and it's 12pm and still nothing.

Will post pictures once this beauty is all hooked up and will comment on it etc.

Lo hazza! Thanks ya man, my Mom's ok and all relations etc. It's quite a miracle really. Central Colombo wasn't hit. It missed us by 10 - 15km really. And on the other side (the financial center) 'Fort' near the harbour was missedas well...If Colombo got hit, Sri Lanka would pretty much have gone back to the ice age (without the ice ).

Hey David, want a review for Hexus m8 or have you already got one? A bit late but I could do it. Got a bit of spare time these days...

Gah, I've really had it with Apple using TNT. It's 4pm and still nothing. Missed 2 lectures (not a great way to start a new semester eh?) and it should 'supposedly' be delivered in the next 1.5hrs. I've sent a rant off to Apple and 'Mick Hull' who is the manager for Customer Relations UK. I got 1 email from him and sent him about 4 - 5 replies to which no answer (all different issues, different orders...).

They make some cool stuff but really need to work on their 'customer service' aspect. It is plainly stupid to have a large customer base that aren't corporate executives that have secretaries/receptionist that can accept deliveries and use a shipping company like TNT.

I've had packages from DHL, UPS and FedEX and they have always gotten the driver to call me when they get here. Once the driver even got directions from me (lol). TNT claim that their drivers can only contact the depot and have 'no idea' of the location of the lorry...hello GPS?

Also, Apple shouldn't support 'free shipping' if the shipping is going to be of such terrible quality. I'd rather pay an extra 50 - 100quid and get it sent via DHL/UPS or FedEX.

Back to having to sit here staring at the road...*sigh*.

I've wasted one whole day, missed
a 3hr lab and 2hrs of lectures and ...they do not show up.

Seems that their driver is 'new' and couldn't find 'Barbier House'

a) Why is he looking for Barbier house when I've added 'Deliver to the
Gen office?'

I was at the MAIN reception from 9am till 6pm!! I'm completey
exhausted and have contacted TNT who say they will call me tomorrow
(haha!) and arrange for a better time *sigh*.

b) at every twist and turn of the drive way there are HUGE GREEN
BOARDS stating '< Barbier House'...

Can he not read english?!??

Based on the 20" i had you will love it - i sent mine back though, going to replace with a 23" when i can afford it, i loved the display, but just wanted a bit more viewable area, i think the 23" would be perfect.

The 23" arrived today at 9am...I was outside (again)...and then the TNT truck arrives...

The gets off with 'another' parcel! So I'm like "Um....I'm here for my 23" display?" and then he goes to get it...

*sigh*.

Still....the 23" is FREAKING stunning...LOVE it!

Will post pics soon. Ya derth, you'll like the 23" more...the 20" seems tiny @ the store.

Any dead pixels? initial thoughts?

Initial thoughts:

Dead pixels, none at all..nada...ziltch....shocking! It is breathtaking and quite what Apple said - Suspension of disbelief.

I'm still getting over it's beauty, res and crispyness. This is not a normal LCD panel. I watched a scene from Resident Evil Apocalypse - The bit where she drives in the bike to blow up the hunter (or what ever you call 'em)...I was sitting here with my jaw on the floor.

I would have so done this ages ago...and I'm really not so sure why I didn't!

And Apple have charged my CC today some £1073ish...

Expose is freaking amazing, and a requirement at this resolution - you'll have way more windows open and will be using it a fair bit...of course Windows users arn't gonna be able to enjoy this.

Word of warning: When delivered by TNT they have their parcels in a freezer (or something like that). Once I opened the box everything was condensing. Give it time to 'defrost' as it were...you don't want shorts when powering it up.

This is probably the most torture one would endure in the 21st century...

And it doesn't power up unless the machine is powered on. For a few secs I thought it was DOA.

Mini has been cancelled...I really can't be wasting time handling TNT. I'm thinking of getting a FW hdd for now...I know it's not exactly a 'Mini' but hrm!..
