Audio recording

Anyone know of a way to record digital audio from the Mac onto the Mac? I'm looking for something that will let me "loop" the sound internally. On a PC all you do is set the recording input to "Wav" or suchlike, but on a Mac you can't. You have to plug a lead from the headphones into the line in - with an obvious loss of quality.

Anyone know a way to select the "wav" output as the recording input on a Mac?

Or is it a conversion you're trying to do?

Found a util - cost 10 quid but it's superb.

I'm trying to do what I say really - take recordings of the onboard sound without having to loop a lead and do the whole D2A then A2D conversion (and loose quality in the process).
