Got a similar spec machine here
Dual 2.7, 1gb RAM, 750gb storage, dual 17" studio displays, 56 channel RME Hammerfall audio card, etc
Ill go chuck SETI on it for a giggle to see what the benchmark time is.

Bah, couldn't get the benchmark to run without a net connection. Sorry
Alrights man...
Thanks for the 1.8G G5 deal
Why isn't it connected to the net? Nice setup thoOriginally Posted by Lowe

As for the G5, it'll be delivered sometime next week before Friday the 9th of Sept. Kinda amazing how quickly time flys, we are already in September. Gonna be kissing this holiday goodbye as well

It's not linked to the net since it's in a recording studio which sadly is just outside the wireless range. It'll get hooked up eventually, but for now it's not a priority since the machine is a dedicated audio cruncher.
Wowzers that's extremely sweet You need to get a 23/30" HD monitor and it'll be perfect
Thanks for posting that pic.
2x30" and I'd be in heaven. Can't see the departmental budget stretching to that though.
thats a very nice apple beast what are the benchmarks in games when compared to a windows box with around same components for example the graphics can and processor speed etc?
If you are currently managing with a dual 17" setup I would think that a single 30" display would suffice.
On the G5 front I've had a fair few breaks. I got the M-Audio Rev 7.1 card for £45 (RRP £77+), 2GB of Corsair XMS RAM TwinX for £180 and the best surprise was a few mins ago. The 300GB Maxtor with 16mb cache that I wanted off eBuyer was going for £109.49 last week - Today it is going for £90.76 - a £18.73 drop - W00T
I hope one day I am rich enough to enjoy ultra-mac goodness. Been using them at work a lot and I absolutely love them, yet for something decent its too pricey for me
Well once can hope that their MacIntels would be cheaper, considering they won't require any parts that one would consider 'special'.
/me is relaxing at a bar on GPRS 150km away from home...ok me off
Are you wearing a floral hawaiian shirt, aviator sunglasses and bermuda shorts, drinking a cocktail from a tall glass with an umberella and surrounded by women in bikinis?Originally Posted by bsodmike

Red10: Heh. I wish. Today I'm enjoying a corona, just got back from small drive around Kandy (center of Sri Lanka). Probably go play some pool in a bit.
Well finally, it arrived last night from the Airport and cleared customs by around 8pm and picked it up a little after 9pm. Interestingly Apple have changed the way the G5s are packed and it is better protected this way.
Ganked out the the stock RAM and HDD and low and behold a SWEEET suprise, a Maxtor DiamondMax 10 250GB HDD (16mb cache). I'm giving the RAM and HDD back to the Apple agents for a very nice deal (matched UK eBuyer prices and getting around £40 on the 2x256mb and £83ish for the HDD).
Got Tiger installed and updated and backed up my FW HDD on it, the speed is very nice. I've not noticed any slowdowns at all...still not been able to fully configure it due to time constraints but I'm quite pleased.
My mate has just bought a mac mini, but he knows nothing about macs at all....so I did a deal...I sort it out, install everything he needs and teach him how to use it, and in return, I get his mighty mouse, cos he already has several spare mice !!Originally Posted by herulach
As for bsodmike, nice specs mate, now if only I had the cash! lol
