How cheap would it be to build a G5 via eBay?

Or is it not possible? I bought a G5 case for a little mod, but I also spotted a cheap fully working Logic motherboard.. I have no idea how long it's going to stay cheap but I don't really think there is much interest in it. But I know it's not a simple case as buy a harddrive, graphics card, CPU etc and you are set, isn't there more to it than that?

The hardest parts are going to be the CPU and mac specific graphics card, and possibly the PSU (can't remember if it's a standard atx supply or not..)

The graphics card you might just have to buy new (if you want a recent one), but the hardest is probably going to be the CPU(s) unless you can find a broken one being sold for spares?

You'd probably then need the cooling gear, and of course a copy of OSX, unless you were going to run Linux or Darwin on it..

Yea I haven't seen too many mac parts to be honest, but it would be a nice gem to find out that a G5 would be really cheap to build. I think I might just leave it, thanks though

Having said that I did find a 2ghz g5 cpu module on ebay for £200, then another £150 for a Mac 9800xt, so I suppose you'd be looking at £600-700 for a complete system, plus the software costs

It depends if you can find all the parts cheap enough I suppose

This may actually look feasable, some dude is selling a dual 2ghz Logic Board, with the processors and heatsink on ebay for a small price expecting it to grow... I shall keep my eye on this one....
