My G5 iMac arrives tomorrow - what should I do first?

    Hi guys,

my brand new computer arrives on Tuesday. What should I do with it first? Is there a killer app I should download? How about a great feature of OS X that I should play with?

Give me your ideas - as long as the most popular isn't "sit around and look at the box" I will do the best idea first.

get your widgets sorted out - download the best from apple.com in the osx section

get all your favourite websites added to the bookmark bar and enable tabbed browsing in safari - two brilliant features

less than 24 hours to go....getting excited.

I have been using tabbed browsing in Firefox for a while - a great feature. I like the widgets idea.

I'd love to get my Ipod sorted so that it is synchronised with the Mac, not with my PC but there is a bit of work involved with that.

I think I'll clear the desk. I'll post the pictures.

Any more ideas before I burst with anticipation?

You lucky boy, when i got my Mac, i was blown away by how good it was... As it's an iMac, you'll notice instantly how good the display is, Apple (or their supplier) really have got this sorted. As for Mac OS X - well, that speaks for itself...

As an aside, i wasn't overly keen on Dashboard (one of the few people, i hasten to add!). I thought it was bloat, to be honest and a bit of a novelty, but it certainly looks the part and maybe useful for some...

    Regards

    Dan.

If you've already got a Mac, don't migrate, just install everything from scratch and copy all the other files across. I've been trying to fix a PowerMac G5 which had been migrated to from a PowerBook G4 and it's caused no end of trouble...

Aside from that, just play around with your display settings, pausing every once in a while for a 'wooooo' of appreciation as you witness what all us PC schmucks are waiting years for Longhorn to deliver
