in a tremendously useful post, buy a proper computer, not a tonka toy.

But on a more serious note, isnt there a key combo you can hold down that will boot to the mac equivalent of safe mode? its apple and somethign or other

have you got the osx cd?

throw it in, hold down c as soon as you switch on...
then you can run disk utility to see if there is a hdd problem, or file prermissions etc.

You should be able just to drag the .app file from one install to the other.

Nick don't buy backup software just download a program called iBackup. Its great for backing up macs. As well as restoring them.

Also the disk errors could be something to do with wierd files, I know photoshop produces errors when its installed due to the legal folder.

You could try diskwarrior to restore the files.

Also got ibackup which is a good program. I'm just so annoyed that this is the second time it has happened to me

Will Try diskwarrior when I get home tonight, the only thing that really annoys me is all the emails and message rules I created, they took me ages.

iBackup will backup all that for you so if the worst happens again you will have everything backed up.

Out of interest have you got the mini on a surge protector and how did the disk fail before?

I don't have the mini on a surge protector at all..

I was using everything and it was cool, the next time I restarted it would just crash on the bootup screen.

Reinstalled the OS and it now seems fine...
