    Loading Program at Start-up

    Hi,

I am loving my macbook, i was just wondering whether it would be possible to add a program to load up upon startup of OSX.

Reason i am asking is that i would like iAletU to start up at log on so i can activate it when i want, instead of having to load it each time i want to use it.

    help greatly appreciated

    Ian

Now who is going to answer first ?

    select accounts
then there is a tab for login items.

    Because it's "different"...

people only like to stay in their comfort zone and use what they "think" they know.

I'd say that more than half of windoze users barely know windows, let alone try and learn a new os.

I'm so tempted to switch, I love the OSX interface. Looks so much slicker than windows, including Vista.

    Do it!

I was actually thinking of changing my main PC to an iMac (last night), so I would be 100% mac. As i could still run XP, and the games I want to (Half Life 2 and Battlefield) because of the x1600 (which i guess is similar to my x800xl).

Very Tempting indeed, justs seems like a waste tho, with all the money i have spent on the pc etc.

A dual core iMac should do me fine

    Decisions Decisions

    Ian

PS. How easy is it to swap the harddrive in the iMacs and give it say 400Gb, and then how would i get OSX to install on it ?

PPS. If this does happen i wouldnt anticipate it happening until next year! (Year of the leopard)

Perhaps people are actually happy with Windows? OSX is nice, but I prefer Windows over it as far as functionality and apps are concerned. Also like my games, and there's just something about having a big tower that I can't explain!

Did look at getting a Mac notebook a few months back, but they're just too expensive.

    Thats just it.....

you're "happy" with windows, yet if you tried OSX, you'd see it's benefits.

As for price arguments.... they're long gone with the macbook prices.

I've tried OSX extensively though - two of my housemates both have Macs.

Don't get me wrong, it's a nice OS and Macs themselves are nice machines, but I don't know why people think it's impossible to be happy with Windows. OSX isn't supremely better at absolutely everything.

I still think the price argument is perfectly valid myself - the cheapest MacBook is £749, whilst a Dell 640m (with almost equivalent specs) is £599. Now there's some pros and cons to each machine (stuff one has that the other doesn't, such as Bluetooth on the Mac and a DVD Writer on the Dell), but still, that's quite a price difference.

My point there is that, for someone like me who uses and generally prefers PCs, but wants to try out a Mac (as I did before I bought my 630m), the price becomes the main deciding factor. Owning a Mac just wasn't worth that sort of price premium, to me at least. For Mac users it's probably entirely different because they ignore the price of PC equivalent machines, so it doesn't bother them.

Forgive me if I'm wrong but the cheapest Dell 640m (for £599) only has a single core processor and cdrw/dvd rom drive

For £699 http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/pr...hs1&l=en&s=dhs you can get the dual core processor (only 1.6 mind) and similar spec to the mac.

I get a 3 years warranty on my macbook, and it cost me only £643 I have yet to see a cheaper dual core laptop!

One of my mates actually used my computer this weekend and his first reaction was errrr it's a mac. He had no idea how to load programs etc, it was actually quite fun to watch.

I think if everyone was sat down in front of a mac and shown just how great they are to use lots more poeple will swap.
