    My MacBook is dieing :(

My 600 year old G4 works perfectly and yet my 2 month old MacBook is already screwed

I'm getting the random shutdown problem where every so often it'll just switch itself off. Ive performed the underclock trick and it seems to work but once I get back home I'm going to have to send it off to get its logic board replaced

Seems apple have also recalled batteries for their new note books :/ Same issue as the dells as they are the same battery. Its on the Register so I would check your batteries to.

Well, Well what can I say? Sorry to hear your problem, but first edition Apple hardware must allways be avoided. Have been waiting for weeks now for the revised MBP to arrive as I need a new laptop, Paris on the 12th hopefully. With the new core 2 and the revised design finally Apple can get back to releasing computers that arn't a gamble to buy...

check facts before giving advice, AFAIK its only ibook G4's and powerbook G4's that are affected in the battery recall - not the new intel line so it will have nothing to do with the battery...

You couldn't do that wth Apple, but if you sell it on ebay before the rev's come out then you would get nearly all your money back

sucks to hear that Mine has been fine so far..the battery draining problem is fixed by making sure its properly shut down before closing the lid, the mooing was fixed with the latest firmware update....and i've had no shutdown problems or yellow stains..yet

I'm half hoping that it does die on me when the new revs come out though, as it could mean a new logic board revision

It's our own fault for buying rev A Apple hardware - the worst thing is I know not to do this, I know how dodgy it is...and yet I still went out and bought one pretty close to release lol..if only it wasn't so much better than my old iBook G4

I remember reading about a bunch of Apple laptops (sorry, cant remember if they were G4's or new Intel chips) that came with a sticker still left on by accident covering a heat exhaust vent. If it's that, remove the sticker, and all will work properly

have you upgraded to the latest firmware? one was just released in the past few weeks.

mine has been pretty much flawless, apart from it etting a bit toasty...

    ian

the sticker problem was on the intel macbooks, and it only affected a small bunch - also on the macbooks the thermal paste was applied correctly (supposedly)
