    os 9.2.2 Wifi card

I don't know a whole lot about macs, but a friend has asked me to find a wifi card for their mac to connect it to an existing 802.11b network. They are using MacOS 9.2.2 on a PowerMac g4, I believe.

I cannot seem to find anywhere that sells the apple "airport" cards in the 802.11b flavour and was wondering if I could just get a bog-standard PCI 802.11b card and get MacOS drivers for it? If so, are there any recommendations?

    Thanks in advance!

Wait for another person to confirm this but I'm pretty sure OS9 doesn't support WiFi

    Of corse it does!!
I had one of the first white ibooks, with a blazing 400mhz G3. With the airport card installed it ran like a dream with wifi on os9.

But as to the problem in hand it could be tricky to find a supported card for the G4 desktop. A bog standard PCI wifi card wont work with the computer as Apple are sooo stingy with hardware support.

    Check ebay..... is my suggestion.

Apple have long stopped making the original Airport cards. They can be had on eBay, but for silly money. The actual airport cards were nothing special, IIRC they are just Lucent WaveLan PCMCIA cards, but with two pins switched around.

There must be some PCI-cards around that support OS9, have a look arounds Dabs or perhaps Cancom.

Also, there is a utility somewhere that allows you to use a third-party card with the actual Aiport menu bar, preferences etc. Can't remember the name, and I don't know if it OS X only, but have a google and you'll find it.
