Yep. I read this in the times earlier this morning. As you said, bound to happen at some point. Driving 3000 miles at high speed like petrol head morons is never going to come to any good.
Its terrible that the person who died wasnt even part of the Gumball race, just an innocent driver. It'll be interesting to see what kind of punishment the Gumball driver will receive.
******s, running off after it and trying to escape the country in another car, no morals just nobs.
Problem with gumball rally, there is no requirement for you to be a good drive just that you have loadsa dosh and are famous or something. So you get knobs who cant drive doing it and this happens.
I hate what its become on the telly too, with the gimp alex roy, god thats a dire program now, it used to be about the cars now its rubbish
accidents happen thats life. but leaving the seen of an accident there can be no excuse for that.
they should loose there licences and there liberty.
most likely they will get a fine and which won't affect them at all
forget that they should be charged with something, man slaughter tbh.
death by dangerous driving or whatever.
theres no way you buy a 911 turbo and drive at speed limits they no about were the wrong side of 120 , idiots.
In some far eastern countries i bet that wouldnt have even been debated they would have been done there and then
Terrible accident and i feel really sorry for the family of the guy who died. I do have a tiny bit of sympathy for the guys in the porsche, they've been given the biggest punishment for driving too fast - killing an innocent person.
Were the drivers actually famous or just rich?
just rich i think.
there too many conflicting stories some say they tried to escape, others say they waited for an ambulance..
all i know is they were not driving sensibly now i know everyone likes a blast here and there, but you just cant do that on small roads with a car of that power as you will go wrong.
Its a surprise tbh as they all drive like utter nobs from the footage and the vids on tube ect
Theres a video somewhere on the net showing the car in the ditch and a bit of the surrounding area. It looks like it just went straight over a t-junction and the golf hit the rear of the porsche. So it was just going so fast they couldn't brake in time for the T-junction.
I don't know if thats exactly what happened but thats what it looks like to me
Its worrying how many people are quick to judge based on their assumptions of the situation. Yes, the car was on the gumball rally, but that does not automatically mean they were doing excessive speed - take for instance General Lee's 2CV in last years rally - won Spirit of the Gumball, but could hardly break 70mph.
I'd wait until the information has been fully revealed (if it ever is) and leave the judgement as to responsibility to those empowered in that state to make those decisions.
My thoughts go out to the family of the Victim, and I wish the best for all involved.
dave tell me your joking. a 2cv is a slow tin box. a 911 turbo is an amazinlgy fast car and wont have been doing the speed limit to do that.
Most rumours are saying they were doing 140 mph on the wrong side of the road, im sure we will have a deff answer soon. Although that could be a bit far fetched theres no way they were doing 40 mph, and you wont tell me otherwise.
No I'm not joking.
The point about the 2CV was the perception that so many have stuck in their heads about the Gumball rally. So many assume it is simply extremely rich people driving round Europe at 200mph, and that anything which happens as a result is due to that fact, and nothing else.
All I am arguing is that there is potentially more to this than many have simply assumed. And Yes, a 911 Turbo is a quick, and expensive car, but it drives just as well at 70 as it does at 140+, so the automatic assumption by so many that he was obviously going too fast is what concerns me. Guilty until proven innocent?
Admittedly, it is very likely that excess speed had something to play in the accident. I'm simply saying that it should not be taken as the only factor worth considering. The car could have been on the wrong side of the road, the other car could have pulled out on the 911 - from the contents of the article I read, theirs nothing which points to causality, merely a set of speculations. I just suggest that people should keep an open mind before condemning the Gumball and the people on it.
theres no way you would leave the scene if it wasnt your fault, i have seen the videos and the TV program and yes alot of them do cruise across the world at excessive speed.
And i will condemn the gumball as its full of rich people that have lots of money and super cars but not much driving skill.. its surprising more stuff hasnt happened.
Im not insulting you, but when you say its not all about speed, you simply are contradicting what the tv pro gramme and the internet videos show.
yes there are other cars that compete for other reasons than to show off like the 2cv, but they are in minority to the 911`s Ferrari's lambos ect
It costs ~£30k to enter the rally, you don't get many 2cvs doing it!
In fact, i've been on forums that have members who do this rally each year. They will actually buy a car purely to do the gumball in, these aren't cheap cars, they might be £150k lambos/tuned porsches etc.
These people don't care if they get a speeding ticket or wreck the car. They just don't seem to realise that its not just their car at risk when they're doing these speeds
I entirely agree with dave to be honest, just because you drive a fast car doesnt make you drive fast. My car is easily capable of 120, it doesnt mean i do it regularly. My dads car does 155, the same as the majority of the mercs & beemers that will have been in there. Hes the slowest driver you'll ever come across, and rarely breaks 70 on the motorway.
I arent saying they were'nt speeding, im just a bit shocked that people automatically assume they were just because they were driving a porsche. I see plenty of people driving golfs like muppets everyday
im not talking about your dad, when your surrounded by people in lambos that are driving very quick, its hard not to join in, and they do as seen from the numerous films of them undertaking, going up lay bys to get past ect.
The krux of this isnt a golf that drives like a nob, im not talking about day to day driving of randoms, i
im talking about being in the unique situation of all these supercars around, adrenalin flows and things get a bit silly.
The classic showing off syndrome with young lads, it doesn't go away when you got money and a car like that at your disposal
