Post Can I replace the rear silencer (imaged) by myself?

Hi, guys. I am new here and just registered a moment ago. The rear silencer of my car is rather rusted. Yesterday it was broken and apart from the downpipe. Can I actually buy this part and replace it myself. It looks not that difficult. Does anyone have the experiments before? Really looking forward to hearing your ideas. Many thank.
BTW: My car is Ford fiesta 1.3i (1996 on, I guess). Where can I buy this part if it is OK for me to do so.

Thanks for all the replies. there is the image of the joint point between the silencer and downpipe. Is that difficult apart from each other? I just enjoy DIY very much if the job doesn't take any risk.. And I am in Southampton. Anybody knows where I can buy the replaced silencer?

you can..but getting it OFF is a sod of a job. They become very attached with rust and heat.

I'd say that you're likely to butcher the middle section of pipe while doing it and you might just want to get a garage to do it with an air chisel and air hacksaw.

All I can say is buy the Haynes manual.

I had an exhaust go on what sounds like the same car, they replaced the whole lot for £120 I think as it was pretty knackered all over.

Oh I dunno, I suppose you could use it to hit the thing repeatedly. Then give up and take it to the garage.

I read somewhere that you heat the joint with a blow torch then hit it with a hammer, making sure you don't let the rear section drop down at all as it could snap the middle section.
