Could be your synchro-mesh has gone one the 1st-2nd gear shaft. Does it happen in any other gears?
Would guess at the synchro-mesh too. Very common, especially 1st to 2nd.
only into second, changing up and down.
scrappys 4 a new box????
Looking that way. Is it the mk1 shape clio? If so, it might be worth scrapping altogether and buying a new car id imagine the gearbox actually being worth more than the car, and if thats the case it might be a bit daft keeping the car
Hope this helps,
cheers. i'll make some calls
Not worth changing the gearbox for though.. you'd only need to change it if you wore out a gear because of it. Most people just live with it - take the change easy and do your best to match engine speed before the change. I got to drive a Nova with no synchro on a couple of gears.. you got used to it
thats fair enough but i can pick up a box for about 100 bar, probely bit less... seems reasonable n its doing mi nut in
Are you fitting it yourself? The labour on a gearbox will probably double that price easily. In which case id sell the car and get something a little better (money permitting of course)
The only other alternative is to nurse it until it completely dies. Try blipping the throttle when changing down to 2nd as Kalniel suggested above...
Obviously there is a drawback to that that is if the mesh completely breaks then your without 2nd gear
If you match revs, it should last a while. When the syncro is compleatly dead you can either start in 2nd skip 2nd compleatly.. If the other gears are good then you really dont need 2nd that much.
any one wana buy it then
