Renault has unveiled its new Clio supermini.

The three-door model goes on sale in October this year, and the five-door will follow in January 2006.

The new model is 210mm longer than the current car, to provide extra space for up to five passengers. The company claims a longer and wider chassis also means improved road-holding.

The new car is expected to achieve a top five-star Euro NCAP crash-test result in order to compete with the class-leading Peugeot 1007 for safety. The Clio will come with traction control and electronic stability control as standard to help drivers in dangerous situations. Buyers can opt for up to eight airbags. Headlamps that automatically turn to aid visibility while cornering are also featured.

    The engine options will include a 75bhp 1.2-litre, a 98bhp 1.4-litre and a 113bhp 1.6-litre unit. The 1.5-litre diesel engine will be available with 68bhp, 86bhp or 106bhp.

A five-speed manual and a four-speed automatic gearbox will be available, as well as a six-speed manual for the most powerful diesel engine. A quick-change manual gearbox with paddles mounted behind the steering wheel will also be offered with the 1.2 and one of the diesels.

Prices and full specifications are likely to be announced in August but a range from £9000 to £14,000 is expected.

I gotta say I prefer the previous shape to this one, will be intresting to see how long it takes me to get one of these in my bodyshop to do some work on one!

I've repaired 2 of the current model 2001-2005 and they are nice to repair/work on

I have the current new shape and lets just say if this is on the market when I look for a new small car, Renault just lost themselves a loyal 6 year customer of the clio. You want a comparison in companies. Ford, they made the Fiesta the new small Focus, Renault make the clio the new small Megane.

    Worst Clio ever.......

They need to pull this off the market and sort that shape out. I prefered the older model of the Megane coupe to then they add a ugly back end on it and destroy what was once a decent care.

I'm not liking the standard models, but I'm quite tempted by the sport, if this is what it will look like!

You see, i like that 'sporty' clio, but the other one is to bland, boring and non descript. but hey, if they want to push the market in that direction...let them!
    that's the chicken!!!

Stop with the pictures, no matter how they tart up mutton as lamb the car is still the worst move Renault have made second to the Megane (new shape). Always been a fan of the clio but this takes the biscuit, so it still lookss like my next car will be on of the last made old megane coupe's on the 52 plate. Other than that, Renault are pushing me futhher and futher towards the new celica or civic. Their advert says sake your backside well I think the designers need to shake themselves out of the design studio, hand in their resignation and never design another car, ever.
