Ok.. seeing as you have the money, and you have the parking space, how about a bit of lateral thinking..?

    Get two cars.

Get something a mite easier to insure as your daily commute, and then treat yourself to a weekend car that would normally be a bit harder to insure. The fact it's only a second car, and hopefully had low milage, might help mitigate the insurance. Personally in that situation I'd go with a classic car as well.

If only a "moron" would look at this thread
I meant only a moron would look at this as an option.

Oh and company insurance won't allow you to have personal no claims bonus so you'll be stuck in your catch 22 for a reasonable ammount of time.
    It is Inevitable.....

Thats probably the best bet. I'm not being rude by saying you cant afford it but it seems that if you are buying an expensive car then scrimping on insurance then just maybe its out of your reach. Just wait til an uninsured driver runs into you, or it gets pranged in a supermarket by someone that drives off. You'll be wishing you had fully comp and several years no claims in a cheap motor behind you.

I think that you need to remember that, as everyone has stated, the cost of a car is not just buying the motor itself but also its running costs. If you cannot afford or find insurance you cannot afford the car, however much money you have. In my personal opinion a young person driving round a large car looks more of an idiot than a smaller car. Have you considered a 5 series bmw? It may be more within your reach, although again I expect insurance may be a problem. No matter how rich you are, if you can't get insured you can't drive the car!

Young guy in a big car? you'll look like you are driving your dads car. And depending on the area of the country you are in, you are probably more likely to get stopped by the police, especially at night. Expect the classic question "is this your car sir?" the answer may be yes, but it could be a right hastle

arbitor - is there really any need to be so abrasive and rude to someone asking for help? Your regularly rather rude and it wears a bit thin.

As for insurance - you can easily get insured on any car no matter how young you are - as long as your willing to stump up the dollah$. I know peeps who had porkers and lotus esprits etc when they were 17-20 and they got insured. Ok their insurance actually cost more than my Skyline GTR lol - but......money's for spending

Sorry. I took that the wrong way. I the reason I made this thread was to see if it was at all possible, but after hearing all your views I realise it would be pretty moronic i guess.

    capt_cornflake

If that happens and you're only third party, then you've got no comeback, and pretty much have to write off the value of the car.
You could try suing them, but someone who can't afford to insure their car, is unlikely to be able to pay out enough to replace yours
    Damn. that's a good point.

As for the S class, how about getting a cheaper 280 and debadging it? might help a bit, especially as you said you aren't hugely fussed about speed. Just as an aside what about a Lexus LS400. Much cheaper and more reliable, ok so they are a bit bland looking but they are an amazing bit of kit. Plus it won't have the 'merc' image and will be easier to insure. Remember that the insurance doesn't just rely on the group but loads of other factors such as desirability and what the image of the car is due to the owner base.

Never get that round here at all, ever. I used to get pulled over in my pulsar all the time (I think the record was three times in a night), I've had the BMW since I was 21 and not had any issues with the Police in the slightest.

    Points to bear in mind:

No insurance company would insure a car over 6k(iirc) tpft.. also if your getting the car on any kind of finance its usually written into the policy that it *has* to be fully comp insurance.

Secondly, company insurance probably wouldnt be suitable... when i was a youngster and worked as a greasemonkey, i was on traders insurance (18-20yrs old) and i paid for myself to be put on the traders insurance myself.. which cost £428 quid third party.. they also slapped restrictions on me basically saying i couldnt drive anything over 1.6l or over the value of 15k - they were inplace until i turned 20.. then i bought a 2.0l turbo nova LOL. anyway when i got a new job and bought my own insurance, it cost me 1100 tpft to insure a £500 cavalier GL 1.6 but hey ho.

Now im 25, have built up full NCB, and now i can insure a scooby/evo/ANother 300bhp car for under a grand fully comp

The BEST thing you can hope to do, is buy a run-around corsa/clio that comes with free insurance... most of them strike a deal if you re-insure the car with their insurance company after a year will give you "bonus" ncb.
I had a clio 1.2 from new with a free insurance offer... i got 4 years ncb for having the car insured with them for 2 years

Rastaman, check the back of mags like AutoCar or AutoExpress, they usually have listings that include insurance groups. Although if it is an old car (i can't remember what you drive) then you could be OOL.
