    Classic or Crush?

Three months to go before my missus's Celica GT is up for MOT and the tin worm is merrily gnawing the wheelarches and tops of the a-pillars. The sunroof is crinkle-cut and full-throttle is the only smooth way to drive up to 2500rpm.

In short it's not looking good.

Problem is she loves the car and I reckon that there a few cars that have such a sweet drive-train. These 2.0 GT 16v's are also heading for minor classic status and that appeals somewhat.

So if the bills go north of £1k do we keep the it?

    How old is it?

*tops* of the a-pillars? That doesn't sound good But sorting the engine shouldn't be the major problem, so maybe get a price estimate first and then decide against the cost of replacing it?

    We're talking F-plate 1987 in black.

The a-pillars are what worry me tbh so I hope it's currently only skin deep as such. It's not exactly got the thickest pillars to start with!

Why spend any money on it at all? plenty of Celica cars for sale on autotrader for less than £1000. If you have storage space, buy another one in better condition, the strip your current car for spares. (or sell the spares on ebay?)

Yes it will be a classic car, but not for a few years yet, as quite a few are still about and so I expect that supply is larger than demand.

Unless it's a GT4 ST185 I don't think it's ever truly going to have 'classic' status. I'd say grab another example with solid bodywork and work from there, maybe using any available spares from your current before it's sent to the old cars home.

Always tough, Sense says to buy anouther one for less cash. However you also may know the history of your current car, and if it's a gooden. Better the devil you know?

Depends how good a condition the rest of the car is etc I guess.

A pillars? Not pretty in an accident chap. Vim...mate.....bin it..

If you feel sad about it, rip that engine out and put it in your garage and keep it. But the A pillars are....fairly important!
