    Engine noise

I've just got myself a 1.6 Nissan Alemera and I've noticed an odd noise from it. It doesn't do it at all when idle but at around 2k rpm in 4th or 5th, which may just be that they are the only gears where the engine is quiet enough to hear it, there's a fairly quiet knocking sound. It's not high pitched or obvious like other engines I've heard that having knocking or pinking problems but it's not a sound I'm used to from other cars.

If there was a problem with the engine would an ECCS diagnostic definately show up as I'm getting an All circuits operating correctly code.

    Suggestions?

No it doesn't do it at any rpm when stationary and only from around 2-3k rpm when under load.

2-3k in any gear under load? I.e 2nd? wind down the windows so you can hear it better if not?

You could try resetting the ECU if it's all electronic, might help with any knocking/similar ignition issues

knocking is usually gearbox/engine mounts/suspension/driveshafts/bottom end bearings..

no idea how to find out which..

but if there is less engine noise at 2k in 4th/5th than 2k in any other gear... something is wrong

does it happen a lot more when engine is struggling (like 1.5k in 5th going up a hill...)..

I woud try not to labour it too much untill you get it fixed
