    Traffic lights question (pic)

    I've done a pic because I cant explain this very well;

    I was in the left hand lane at this junction (me) waiting to go straight on at the lights (1), it was a dual carriageway so I had car A and car B to my right. Just past the junction there is a crossing, as pictured. While we were waiting for the lights to change the light at the crossing changed to red. Now, car A and car B moved forward to wait at the crossing even though our lights were still red.

    I held back though as surely that counts as skipping a red light?? There were cars turning right onto the dual c/w from the side-road so we didn't have right of way right?

    Were the lights red when they moved through them?

    If you go through any lights that are red; regardless of what other lights are doing you're skipping a red light.

    You were right to stay where you were.

    Yeah the lights were red as they went through them, it really confused me at the time, I was thinking maybe there was some rule I'd missed in the hw code.

    Another one that might have caught some people out is if the crossing lights had been red and the junction lights were green - you should only move onto the junction if your exit is clear (presuming that there was a yellow grid on the road)

    I'd agree with that.

    If you're not sure, sit tight, as there's bound to be a police car about just when you really don't need one
