HEXUS Car of the Year 2008?

The (official car of the year 2008) nominations are in - Vote for which one you think should win in this poll...

Then post which one you think will actually win...

For example, I would vote for the Qqashqqi in the poll, as I think it should win (they've actually got the tall-hatchback / suv crossover right, it sells like hot cakes, looks great, gives people a taller ride hatchback, but can be a 4x4 if people want, and it's cheap), whereas I think they will pick the Fiat 500 because they always go for Italian cars...

    Mazda2... its fit.

I've also been in one and they're nice cars, and it was a very good replacement for the old hearse-styled ex-Demio Mazda 2 before it... Mazda needed it to be.

Out of interest what are they actually judging on?.

I mean if people are chosing the fiat on the retro looks, surely they are just jumping on the BMW Mini bandwagon and aren't doing anything new?.

this is what "What car - car of the year" go on...

"excellence in their class", "an incredible amount of car for your money", "Its quality hits you when you open the door", "steering is nice and meaty", "the ride is simply sublime and it's as good to drive as it is to look at.", "It's the completeness of the Corsa that we love"

from last's years winner (the new Corsa): http://www.whatcar.com/news-special-...730&EL=3188095

Doesn't the european car of the year always pick Italian cars?

Re: HEXUS Car of the Year 2008?

Mondeo for sure, it's brought mainstream cars up to the standards of prestige cars.

Can't believe the Fiat 500 love - it's a good car for sure but it's simply a rebodied Fiat Panda, hardly a car of the year candidate?

I went for the C-Class, looks great, is a quantum leap over the old one and has managed to knock BMW off of its perch.

If it was the C-Class I would have gone for the Mondeo.

Re: HEXUS Car of the Year 2008?

Kinda predicatably I went for the Kia as it represents a huge step forward for Korean manufacturers and their first truely credible alternative to the European mainstream.
The Hyundai Coupe was the first tentative step but the Cee'd's ability with its warranty and price is a giant leap.

    As for the others:
Fiat 500 - Cute but a Panda is better value and better packaged. It's also slightly naff.
Mondeo - Great car but big, heavy and does it really move its class on all that far?
    Mazda 2 - 2nd for me.
    C-Class - A Merc I'd actually own!
Qashqai - Needed to be more visually interesting. Nice idea though.
    308 - I can't be objective when the 307 exists. Still it's their best looking shark-face yet.

Re: HEXUS Car of the Year 2008?

I've voted for the mondeo, but I reckon kia should have an honourary prize.

To shoot up the standards so much that the car is being likened to the build quality's of ford, vw etc, and to offer a 7 year warranty, think about that, 7 years piece of mind, is quite an achievment!

The only problem is, that is doesn't get the blood pumping like most of the list which I think really matters to us car nuts!

Went for the Qashqai - great looking car and finally someone has bought out a tall ride practical car at the right price!

I agree the Fiat will win tho - cos they always do...
