Re: Oil testing for cars (free test offered)

It could be nothing, but it would help to know what's in it to start with. I'd imagine you'd be able to blag a few ml of oil from the dealers, depends on whether they take it from a barrel or individual tubs. In fact we have a honda dealer near here, maybe if you can't squeeze any oil out of yours then we could ask ours. If you do get oil off em - make sure you use a clean and dry bottle/container. Not a jam jar or a rinsed coke bottle.

I'll check and see if we need to send you a clean bottle.

Actually I had a look at the results from my car and it's a false alarm. You can breathe easy.

Ack, forgot all about this thread

We replaced the head gasket on mine a couple of months ago, worth checking out the oil?

Its obviously had a complete oil change since then but I assume these tests would show if any lasting damage was done when the gasket went?

Re: Oil testing for cars (free test offered)

Well, the person doing the reports was busy with other things, so they weren't going to go out today. But I've seen the results so I can talk you through this anyway. We have detected some Boron and Sodium in your oil - those are normally additives in coolant (sodium also present in water from other sources). But Boron is also present as an additive in some of the oils (engine in particular). So I have remembered that there was a little Boron in my engine oil, checked the records and sure enough it was there. Now it would be more conclusive if we had a clean oil from your car to compare it with, but there is no water in the oil so it shouldn't be a coolant leak. Wear metals were low. So all seems to be good, but we'll issue the full report on Monday now.

There was another sample (Celica GT Four, can't remember whose it was now) - that was also fine.

Mine was a GT Four, glad to hear it was fine!

Is there any chance of getting a copy of the results?
