Can't HPI check a car?! Help?!

I'm trying to HPI check a car but no where recognises the registration plate... The buyer assures me it is the correct number.. what could this mean?

You mean the seller assures you, and you're the buyer? (otherwise your question doesn't make sense).

Walk away. No questions, just walk away. There'll be another car.

Strange. does he have a v5 and does it also look genuine?

In which case you might be able to phone up the dvla or whoever runs the HPI check site - RAC also have a phone number for the hpi check, although that does go through the same site (its not codced particually well...)

One more check, phone your insurer and give them the plate since they will check the details of the car anyway. I doubt they will insure a car that has a dodgy plate so they should be able to tell you.

It was a '97 Mazda 323 fast back.. the seller has finally corrected him self, I ran the HPI check... It was a Cat C write off... erf! Absolutely gutted.. really want one of these! Think i'll be taking your advice schmunk.

If the seller is legit and it's an admin issue - You will end up with the problem if you decide to sell on
