Do you still have to pull the door handle twice to get out of the thing?

What about opening the boot, can you open that without turning the ignition off?

have they swapped rev counter and speedo?

given you better seats? a better stereo? better gear box (cos it's pants in my mums CooperS)

    Re: New Car :)

Gah! Bloody horrible things. My wife owned one for a good 4 years and it was the most uncomfortable car I ever drove. Handled well but did not have enough grunt either.
    Not around too often!

Nope, I've been driving a 51 plate cooper for the last 4 years..

Yep, the old one didn't do that, but this one does (not sure if you can change it with the on-board computer though)

Yep, the "key" has a boot-release button

No, but you can get a digital speed reading on the rev counter

I've never had a problem with the seats, but these feel even more solid.. Stereo seems fine, and the gear-box was changed out a while ago to a getrag unit, it depends on how old your mums scooper is, the new one has a lovely short throw now, and a much better feel than the old 5 speed unit.

The old one wouldn't go into reverse sometimes

Not with the new ones, they're far far better built now (both were symptoms of the original design)

    Re: New Car :)

It was last year sometime mum got her CooperS, so it isn't that old.

The seats are firm, but you slide about on the leather and they don't hold you very well, especially considering it is the S.

Stereo is non-replaceable which annoys me no end (same can be said about dozens of cars though). The finish of the center console is really cheap and plastic. a standard 1.6 Golf is better in this regard.

If you are your parents like it then that’s great, I just think they are overpriced fashion accessories

    Re: New Car :)

They do benefit from being classless, and having great engines in the S guise though.

And as you say the leather isnt the most gripping, the seats for me never had enough bolster.

And the fact it had no gauges, just told me when it was overheating. Its very bad for knowing what problems could be going on.

Also the throttle response is pants. Takes a few seconds to kick in on the cooper.

I managed to put my foot flat in 2nd quickly, so much so is the lagg that nothing happened
