    Little Advice Please

    Hi all.

I am soon to get into the whole race to get the license thing, now I am competent behind the wheels and done many lessons before a stint in the hospital stopped me last time, thing is I have a few questions.

    1) My provisional is still showing my old address, and I appear to have lost the two pieces of paper it comes with, how would I go about changing it or getting the papers back.

    2) I have a friend who is capable of getting me the vehicle I am after * estate for my dogs * it would come from a salvage yard as a CAT D, are these fine for being put back on the road.

    3) Which is the best insurer for someone who is living on a council estate and would have to dump the car on the road outside until money permits a drive.

CAT D is stolen and recovered afaik. So it might have a busted lock or something but should be fine to drive.

I'm sure you can get a new licence but you would have to call them to find out the steps you need to take. Post office might have such forms.

No idea for the insurance.. Tesco's are normally quite good.. you can even get tescos value insurance

    Re: Little Advice Please

CAT D are a write off because its not been financially viable to repair them, or was written off in the first year.

CAT C and above are the ones I personally wouldn't trust, but some have been done for track use.

Remember, an insurance co will deal differently with a CAT D as a normal car....might be worth considering.

    Re: Little Advice Please

ahhh so what is the stolen one? Is it just considered stolen and reparied or reparable?

Unless it's a great deal they are often best left alone regardless but it should be fine for the road with a little work (whatever is wrong with it).

    Re: Little Advice Please

Well with a mate who owns a garage who could do the work in his spare time, and a max budget limiting me on what I can afford * need estate...diesel if possible...reasonably modern * cat D cars tend to offer me so more options.

I shall have a word about my license issue perhaps at the CAB, I have a provisional right now, but it's

    1) For my old address

    2) I am missing the two pieces of paper which normally come with it, and of which I am told are needed for the test.

    Re: Little Advice Please

For the licence, the paper counterpart (equally important as the photocard, hope you didnt lose that) has the change of address form at the bottom, you need to send off both parts to get it changed. Also, ther eis a £100 fine.. for something.. read the bottom of the papery bit...

I cant remember any details, but if you have already done the hazard awarenes/theory test, you might need to pay for a replacement peice of paper or resit it.. but you need it.. *i think, they might be able to check on computer*

I would say any write off is a good, if theres nothing wrong with it and its cheap.. It will cost more and sell for much less, and harder to sell. I would get it checked over fully, a lot more thoroughly than a normal used car.

i like quinn direct for insurance but its best to check comparason sites, and then phone around.

    Re: Little Advice Please

Only got the photocard part SilentDeath and the Photocard has an out of data address on it.

IF I am due to be fined £100 for loosing a piece of paper when I got it back in 2002 then that is not really fair in my view.

I have not done the theory yet, main reason for wanting this provisional sorted to be honest.

You need to go to the DVLA site and order the relevant form, I can't remember the code for replacing a lost or partial license but I'm sure they had a walk through there. Think it was about £25 it cost.

    Re: Little Advice Please

Why on earth choose a Cat D car for your first car?

Diesel Estate shouldn't represent a problem without resorting to that. Let's face it.... there are hundreds of Astras/Escorts/Citroen ZX/Pug 405 diesel estates out there...
