    Reading to Liverpool

I'm heading up to Liverpool for the weekend.
    Driving up on Friday nite.

    I'm guessing it's gonna take 3.5 - 4 hrs to get there, about 200miles I think, I'm leaving Reading at 5ish.

Will I need to use the new M6 toll road? is it even worth it?

Any advice? (Other than don't go to Liverpool )

Coming back down on Sunday nite, leaving there around 6pm, so getting home at 10ish?

Liverpool has lower crime rates than Manchester

In fact there's about 2 or 3 Clio 172's on some of the poorer streets round here, so I doubt they'll nick yours

What ya going to Liverpool for? If you fancy a cuppa let me know

Heading up to L'pool for the FA Cup game. Wife is a L'pool fan but hasn't been to Anfield for years and I've never been.

It's also Valentines Weekend, so hence we booked two nites in the Holiday Inn in Lime Street, only hotel we could actually get a room this late!!

So any ideas for things to do on the saturday?

Went to Manchester last summer and we got slowed down at 2 in the morning on the way back but to be honest, that was when the roadworks were still going on to build the toll road.

There ought to be a few people on here that live near the thing.

Another one that says use it - Tried it the other week. I'm normally a "straight up the M1 and cut across the M62" man, but thought I'd see if the M6 had improved any.

The toll road was ace, couple of quid and you've a nice empty motorway. Won't make me use the M6 for my journeys north, but if you've got to use the M6, then £2 is pittance to pay for the stress free half an hour you'll enjoy.

ah the big holiday inn - it should be alright it's been built within the last 12 months i think. (or rather holiday inn did it up in the last 12 months) - you're right in the center there

things to do? hmmm... ferry accross the mersey? (a bit dull but ok), radio city tower tour. (haven't been on this) otters pool ? (fairly nice walk and pubs). albert docks always pretty nice / good. there's a tourist information place just behind the holiday inn (facing out of holiday inn, turn left and follow footpath round to get there) so you could have a look there for some good ideas. St John Shopping center is pretty poor - best shops are on the main streets, and bold streets good for cafe's / shops etc with an old burnt out cathedral at the top that looks pretty cool. then there's the 2 cathedrals - you can go to the top of the anglican one, which is apparently the largest cathedral in europe (or at least england).

slightly out of liverpool is Fornby beach which has lovely golden sands, and a red squirrel forest / sanctuary which is good. (and lots of posh houses etc)

don't know, can't think of anything else right now
