    Car Insurance, what a joke!

Well it seems that a lot of these comparison sites dont do the best work it seems.

Been getting insurance quotes for my new car (Y reg Renault Megane 1. td dci privilege + ) and I have been getting a lot of variation

    Endsleigh has been £850-2000
    Quinn Direct has been £850-1400

(including a slight change in my job title from computer programmer to computer engineer mainly, and also saying im a part time student (which for that year I wont be )

Strangely enough the best one I have found has been Bell (part of admiral) which comes in under £700 for a 10 month no claims accelerator bonus.

Some of the extras seem stupid though, like breakdown cover, costing £60 which I can get better cover for £36 (thanks to money saving expert.com)

Is it still worth haggling even more? I am paying £68 a month roughly on the 12 month premium, but £63 on the 10 month one....... I fancy trying to get them to equal the price and let me pay it off in 2 or 3 payments as opposed to monthly if that is possible

Re: Car Insurance, what a joke!

Give Noel Dazely a call, or fill in the form on the website (search on google). They were very competitive for my last two performance cars, and even when I downgraded to the Fiesta Zetec S they were still the cheapest by over £50 a year.

Edit: There are a few choices when paying too, either in one lump, 3 equal lumps, or a 20% deposit (something like that) with 9 monthly installments afterwards.

    Cheers,

Check that the no-claims your get from the accelerator bonus is transferrable to other companies, otherwise in 10 months you're either stuck paying what they say with your no-claims or going elsewhere no better off than you are now.

Re: Car Insurance, what a joke!

Was going to add my little brother to my insurance policy as he's just passed his test, and to add him on till the end of the policy (October) it was going to cost £1700! It's only a 1.4, insurance group 4, and the original insurance for me cost much less than that :s

the 12 month has appeared cheaper after i called them to haggle a bit, well per month cheaper, £811 so the 2 extra months are cheeaper

Called quinn direct as my mate is insured with them, I was assured the website price was the best price available, which it clearly isnt

Re: Car Insurance, what a joke!

a while ago I tried everyone I could think of, and every company that was recommended to me, and confused still came up cheapest. it's worth trying the other comparison sites every now and again, but confused was still the cheapest for me.

Did you find any difference when you changed job title? I always put "Computer" something not really knowing the difference in all the different job titles...

Re: Car Insurance, what a joke!

Just add you dad or mum or something as a named driver. Regardless of whether they actually drive it or not, the price will plummet.

I bought my Mrs a new Focus ST on Tuesday last week (load of rubbish btw......shouldve known better). The premium was £746 fully comp as she is only 29years old. I put myslef on as a named driver (although i will NEVER drive it) and because i am 35 years old the premium dropped to £612 per year

Try Norwich Union Direct. They always seem to be cheapest and offer the lowest excess (mine is only £125)

Often, putting a SPOUSE on makes it cheaper....silly silly rule, but it works. Sair was seperated from her ex for years, but always put him on (until they divorced and we got married) cos it was cheaper. Ridiculous.

And as for the ST.....another thread i think ?

I only mentioned the car as it was a direct corrolation to what i pay (i think the insurance was good value so it was an example).
