    Yay, new car!

Well after nearly 5 years of sterling service (well up until the last six months) it was time to replace my Focus.

So last Wednesday I became the proud owner of a 1996 Lexus LS400, 88,000 miles and full service history.

For its first test it was taken from home (Kent) up to Alton Towers via Drayton Manor Park for a weekend away, roughly a 700 mile trip and it performed faultlessly.

On the motorway it is so quiet and relaxing, wind roar is the only thing that really intrudes into the cabin and the stereo is absolutely amazing. Also on a steady 80/85mph cruise I was getting 35-37 mpg! I thought that was not too bad for the size of engine.

Loving this car and it should last me years, it still feels new.

    Edit: I now have photos

It is a Luxo Barge indeed but it handles very neatly for a car of its size, the acceleration is huge at any speed as well but it does it in a nigh on silent way. My right foot may be the death of my wallet though!

Will get pics up soon, just need to find my camera!

Fantastic car, but with a Lexus the maintainance is incredibly high. At 88k miles I'd be very warys of anything on the verge of failing....clutch, gearbox, or even the exhaust will set you back 1k at least.

    you're having a laugh - I had a 170,000 mile Mk1 LS 400 and it drove like it was new !

If any of those were to fail I would be very surprised. My Dad had an identical LS400 when they were new and it did 150,000 miles without anything but a service, he has also had an SC430 and that never went wrong (although he did only have it 6 months) and my mum has an RX300 which has done 130,000 without any failures.

These things are stupidly reliable, now I know there is a chance but I don't think it is likely, plus I have all the paperwork MOT's etc and the only thing it ever failed on was the private plate letter spacing that it had before (which it failed on every year, you'd think they would learn).

    Re: Yay, new car!

The auto box is great, very very smooth, the only time you can really tell that it is changing gear is on kick down (obviously) and by watching the rev needle move.

Pick up is nigh on instantaneous from stand and whilst moving, although newer boxes I have tried in other cars are faster.

It also learns your driving style and not once have I had it hunt or put me in the wrong gear at un unexpected or incorrect time.

Must say that for a car of its size it is very nimble round the lanes where I live.

Look at the dash - all the warning lamps are on - it's all broken!!! Nice car though, and am amazed at the economy.

    How much was it?

probably the self test - I love the way the steering wheel moves up and away when you take the key out.
